  1. 1. Experimental studies in jet flows and zero pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers

    Author : Ramis Örlü; P. Henrik Alfredsson; Tim B. Nickels; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Axisymmetric jet; swirling jet; coaxial jet; heated jet; zero pressuregradient turbulent boundary layer; wall-bounded turbulent flows; overlap region; passive scalar mixing; hot-wire anemometry; spatial resolution.; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the description and development of two classical turbulent shear flows, namely free jet and flat plate turbulent boundary layer flows. In both cases new experimental data has been obtained and in the latter case comparisons are also made with data obtained from data bases, both of experimental and numerical origin. READ MORE

  2. 2. Turbulent jets in confined spaces : application in mixing ventilation: experimental and numerical studies

    Author : Taghi Karimipanah; Mats Sandberg; H. A. Awbi; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulent; wall jet; impinging jet; free jet; confinement effect; pressure; throw; experimental; numerical; corner; momentum; mixing ventilation;

    Abstract : The basis of mixing ventilation is the airflow supply to the room by means of jets initiatedfrom the ventilation diffusers. To avoid the draught problem, the design of mixing ventilationmakes uses the throw term, which is defined as the distance to the supply air terminal inwhich the jet centreline mean velocity is decreased to a given value. 3. 3. Sound generation in metal flue organ pipes: On the influence of asymmetric flue exit geometry and vibrations of the upper labium with particular emphasis on the early response

    Author : Matthias Scholz; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : jet contraction; wall vibrations; CFD; jet velocity profile; tap tone; asymmetry of flue exits; operational deflection shapes; Coanda effect; yielding upper labium; modal analysis; bottom clamped cylinder; vibration measurements; metal flue organ pipes; dipole; initial jet formation;

    Abstract : Sound generation in flue organ pipes is caused by the non-linear interaction between an instable jet and a tube resonator. Our understanding of this very complex physical process is still incomplete, and there is not yet a model that can explain all details of the richness in pipe sound which can be achieved by a trained organ pipe voicer. 4. 4. Hydrodynamics of plane liquid jets aimed at applications in paper manufacturing

    Author : Daniel Söderberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; liquid jet; transition; break-up; stability; wavelet; free surface; waves; streamwise streaks; fibre suspension; headbox; forming; shadowgraph; hot-film; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Process industries are in general depending, in one way or the other, on fluid mechanics.Specifically, paper manufacturing, which probably is the dominant processindustry in Sweden, is depending on the flow of cellulose fibres suspended in water. READ MORE

  5. 5. Drop Break-up in High-Pressure Homogenisers

    Author : Fredrik Innings; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; plasma; fluiddynamik; Gaser; plasmas; fluid dynamics; POD; Gases; PIV; Eddy; Flow; Jet; Milk; Break-up; Emulsion; Drop; Homogeniser;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this project was to investigate the drop break-up process in milk homogenisers. This was done by measurements and calculations of the flow fields in the gap region and by visualisation of drops being broken up. To make visualisation and measurements possible, two scale models of a homogeniser gap were developed. READ MORE
