  1. 1. Added value from biomass by broader utilization of fuels and CHP plants

    Author : Christer Gustavsson; Roger Renström; Lars Nilsson; Pål Börjesson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biofuels; bioeconomy; pyrolysis; gasification; leaching; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : The present work, where additional value-creating processes in existing combined heat and power (CHP) structures have been examined, is motivated by a political- and consumer-driven strive towards a bioeconomy and a stagnation for the existing business models in large parts of the CHP sector.The research is based on cases where the integration of flash pyrolysis for co-production of bio-oil, co-gasification for production of fuel gas and synthetic biofuels as well as leaching of extractable fuel components in existing CHP plants have been simulated. 2. 2. Innovative process solutions towards recycling of salt cake from secondary aluminum smelting

    Author : Peng Li; Lidong Teng; Sankaran Subramanian; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Thermal diffusivity; Model; Solubility; CO2; AlN; Crystals; Hydrolysis; Enhance; Hinder; Leaching; Absorption; Synthesis; SiMgAlON; Oxidation; Arctan; Activation energy; Mullite; Liquid; Crystallization.; SRA - Production; SRA - Produktion;

    Abstract : To offer better solutions for the recycling of salt cake from secondary aluminum melting, several innovative investigations were carried out based on hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical views.Thermal diffusivity measurements as a function of temperature on salts-Al composites having various compositions (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12wt pct metallic Al) were carried out. 3. 3. Inorganic ions in wood chips- Leaching prior to Kraft pulping and effect of calcium on Kraft delignification

    Author : Anna Saltberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; modelling; calcium; Scandinavian softwood; Keywords: Kraft pulping; potassium; birch; eucalyptus; aspen; acidic leaching; oxalate.;

    Abstract : Wood is the main source of Non-Process Elements (NPEs), such as, calcium, potassium, manganese and chloride in Kraft pulp mills. Due to the recirculation of cooking chemicals and water, process disturbances related to the accumulation of NPEs in the process streams are inevitable. READ MORE

  4. 4. Effect of fruit flavors on anaerobic digestion : inhibitions and solutions

    Author : Rachma Wikandari; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fruit wastes; Fruit flavors; Anaerobic digestion; Biogas; Leaching pretreatment; Membrane bioreactors; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning; Resource Recovery;

    Abstract : Fruits are among the most important commodities in global trading due to its fundamental nutritional values. In 2012, the fruits supply was 115 kg/person/year, however, only 50 % of the fruits reached their consumers and the rest ended up as waste during the long fruit supply chain. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ectomycorrhizal fungi: Their role in nitrogen retention and carbon sequestration in northern coniferous forests

    Author : Adam Bahr; MEMEG; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ectomycorrhizal fungi; Carbon sequestration; Nitrogen deposition; Nitrogen leakage; Field survey; Boreo-nemoral forest; Boreal Forest; Ergosterol; Free ergosterol; Mesh-bags; Multivariate analysis;

    Abstract : Almost all northern forest tree species live in symbioses with ectomycorrhizal fungi (EMF). The trees allocate up to half of the photoassimilated carbon (C) through the roots to EMF. In return EMF deliver nutrients from both inorganic and organic sources in the soil, as well as water. READ MORE
