  1. 1. Neutron Spectroscopy : Instrumentation and Methods for Fusion Plasmas

    Author : Henrik Sjöstrand; Göran Ericsson; Johan Frenje; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neutron spectroscopy; plasma diagnostics; fusion power; fusion; plasma heating; MPRu; JET; triton burn-up; ITER; neutron yield; calibration; Fusion; Fusion;

    Abstract : When the heavy hydrogen isotopes deuterium (D) and tritium (T) undergo nuclear fusion large amounts of energy are released. At the Joint European Torus (JET) research is performed on how to harvest this energy. Two of the most important fusion reactions, d+d→3He+n (En = 2.5 MeV) and d+t→4He+n (En = 14 MeV), produce neutrons. READ MORE

  2. 2. Visible spectroscopic diagnostics : application and development in fusion plasmas

    Author : Sheena Menmuir; Professor Elisabeth Rachlew-Källne; Lorella Carraro; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; visible spectroscopy; fusion; Doppler shift; Doppler broadening; Plasma physics with fusion; Plasmafysik med fusion;

    Abstract : Diagnostic measurements play a vital role in experiments. Without them we would be in the dark with no way of knowing what was happening; of understanding the processes and behaviour occurring; or even of judging the success or failure of our experiments. The development of fusion plasma devices is no different. READ MORE

  3. 3. Diagnosing Fuel Ions in Fusion Plasmas using Neutron Emission Spectroscopy

    Author : Carl Hellesen; Göran Ericsson; Sean Conroy; William W Heidbrink; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fusion; plasma diagnostics; neutron spectroscopy; NBI heating; ICRF heating; energetic ions; Fusion; Fusion; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Applied Nuclear Physics; Tillämpad kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Neutron emission spectra, measured with the time of flight spectrometer TOFOR, at the joint European torus (JET) are presented in this thesis. TOFOR has been in use since 2005, routinely measuring the neutron emission from JET plasmas. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modelling and measuring transport in fusion plasmas

    Author : Istvan Pusztai; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fusion plasmas; ITG stability; microinstabilities; de-convolution; Lorentz operator; gyrokinetic equation; transport; quasilinear flux; beam emission spectroscopy; ion temperature gradient mode; electron density measurement; trapped electron response;

    Abstract : In the present thesis we consider theoretical and experimental aspects of the turbulent transport which is a crucial issue in fusion plasma physics.Experimental observations and gyrokinetic simulations show that collisions strongly influence the turbulent flux of particles. 5. 5. Multi-sightline neutron emission spectroscopy of D and T fusion plasmas at JET

    Author : Arne Sahlberg; Jacob Eriksson; Sean Conroy; Göran Ericsson; Manuel Garcia-Muñoz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fusion; tokamak; neutron spectroscopy; fusion plasma diagnostics; data analysis; fast ion distribution; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : An analysis of the neutron emission from a fusion plasma can be used to determine plasma properties and diagnose fusion performance. In this thesis, several analysis methods for neutron spectroscopy are presented and applied to data from the experimental fusion device JET. READ MORE
