  1. 1. Electrical Charges on Polymeric Insulator Surfaces and their Impact on Flashover Performance

    Author : Sarath Kumara; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; streamer criterion; polymeric insulation; flashover voltage; surface potential; bulk conductivity; surface conduction; humidity; bulk neutralization; charge decay; Surface charge; silicone rubber; corona charging; gas neutralization;

    Abstract : Utilization of remotely located sustainable energy resources such as solar, wind and hydro calls for further developments of long-distance electric power transmissions operating at ultra-high voltage (UHV) levels which may exceed 1000 kV ac and 800 kV dc utilized today. It is foreseen that insulation of such transmission systems is to be based on polymeric materials that can provide a number of technical benefits over traditionally used glass and porcelain based insulation. 2. 2. Surface Charge Dynamics on Polymeric Insulating Materials for High Voltage Applications

    Author : Shahid Alam; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HVDC insulation.; gas neutralization; decay rate; Surface charging; electrical conductivity; surface potential; charge transport; ambient pressure;

    Abstract : To meet increasing demands in electric energy, it is essential to enhance production of electricity from renewable energy sources (solar, wind and hydro). Such generation sites, however, are usually separated from consumption sites by long distances. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mutual Neutralization in collisionswith oppositely charged fullerene(C60) ions

    Author : Raka Paul; Henning Zettergren; Foivos Perakis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, results from Mutual Neutralization experiment carried out atthe DESIREE facility, involving merged interacting ion beams, of oppositelycharged C60 ions are presented. This reaction may be of importance for explain-ing reliable estimates of the ionization balance in astrophysical environments,which defines the chemistry in molecular gas clouds. READ MORE

  4. 4. The interaction of dissolved hydrogen with α-radiolytic oxidants during nuclear fuel dissolution

    Author : Lovisa Bauhn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; α-radiolysis; MOX; hydrogen effect; bromide; gas mass spectrometry; SIMFUEL;

    Abstract : Used nuclear fuel contains radiotoxic elements that will need to be kept isolated from the biosphere over a time period of 100 000 years. The KBS-3 geological storage concept aims to prevent the migration of radionuclides into the environment by different engineered barriers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Invasive group A streptococcal infection : host and pathogen interactions

    Author : Björn K G Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Group A streptococci; invasive infections; erysipelas; Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome STSS ; epidemiology; M1 serotype streptococcal pyrogenic exotoxins Spe ; SpeA; toxin neutralization; opsonization;

    Abstract : Invasive group A streptococcal (GAS) infections were studied in 229 patients with a clinical diagnosis of erysipelas and 151 patients with GAS bacteremia, respectively. Beta-hemolytic streptococci were identified in about a third of the erysipelas patients, mostly group A, whereas group G streptococci were identified in about half as many episodes. READ MORE
