1. Glucocorticosteroid effects on cytokine production: studies in a glucocorticosteroid resistance model and in allergic airway disease
Abstract : Glucocorticosteroids (GCS) are potent anti-inflammatory drugs, probably due to inhibitory effects on cytokine production. However, a small number of asthma patients seem GCS-resistant. Pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-2(IL-2) and IL-4, produced during allergic airway inflammation have been proposed to induce the resistance to GCS. READ MORE

2. Glucocorticoids in the development and homeostasis of T lymphocytes
Abstract : Until recently the fact that glucocorticoids (GCs) play an essential physiological role in regulation of the immune system in health and disease was not fully appreciated. The main aims of this thesis were to investigate the effects of physiological nonstressed levels of endogenous GCs on the development, differentiation and homeostasis of T lymphocytes. READ MORE

3. Clinical and molecular studies of β-haemolytic streptococci
Abstract : Beta-haemolytic streptococci (BHS) are important causes of human infections and they have traditionally been grouped according to Lancefield antigens. The spectrum of infections caused by BHS includes pharyngitis, skin infections, bacteraemia/sepsis, endocarditis, septic arthritis and meningitis. READ MORE

4. Molecular mechanisms of glucocorticoids : anti-inflammatory implications
Abstract : Glucocorticoids (GCs) play important roles in many biological processes including inflammatory responses. The study of this process has involved investigations of cross-talk abilities by GC receptor (GR) with cellular signaling pathways that have been associated with inflammatory disorders or implicated as contributory for the adverse effects observed with GC therapy. 5. Outcome and refinements of gender confirming surgery
Abstract : Introduction: Gender dysphoria is a state in which the individual shows strong and persistent identification with the opposite sex. After thorough diagnostic assessment, the treatment includes gender confirming surgery (GCS). READ MORE
