  1. 1. Runtime Management of Multiprocessor Systems for Fault Tolerance, Energy Efficiency and Load Balancing

    Author : Stavros Tzilis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fault Tolerance; Algorithms; Runtime Management; Multiprocessors; Performance; Adaptive Systems; Load Balancing; Energy Efficiency;

    Abstract : Efficiency of modern multiprocessor systems is hurt by unpredictable events: aging causes permanent faults that disable components; application spawnings and terminations taking place at arbitrary times, affect energy proportionality, causing energy waste; load imbalances reduce resource utilization, penalizing performance. This thesis demonstrates how runtime management can mitigate the negative effects of unpredictable events, making decisions guided by a combination of static information known in advance and parameters that only become known at runtime. 2. 2. Control of Wave Energy Converters in arrays

    Author : Simon Thomas; Jens Engström; Mikael Eriksson; Jan Isberg; Erland Strömstedt; Axel Bochert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektronik; Engineering Science with specialization in Electronics;

    Abstract : One way to lower the levelized cost of energy for wave power plants and paving so the way for commercial success, is to increase the power absorption by use of advanced control algorithms. This thesis investigates the influence of the generator inertia, the generator damping and the layout on power absorption and presents a new model free strategy of controlling wave energy converters. 3. 3. Energy Quality Management for New Building Clusters and Districts

    Author : Hai Lu; Martinac Ivo; Hasan Ala; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The level of concern regarding the total energy consumption in new building clusters and urban districts (BCDs) has increased recently. Rising living standards have led to a significant increase in building energy consumption over the past few decades. A great potential for energy savings exists through energy quality management (EQM) for new BCDs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Novel Multi-Scale Modeling Framework for Structure and Transport in Complex Battery Electrolytes

    Author : Rasmus Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hierarchical analysis; electrolytes; force field development; molecular dynamics; non-vehicular transport; multi-scale method; Lithium-ion batteries; genetic algorithms;

    Abstract : Affordable high energy rechargeable batteries are crucial for further electrification of the transport sector, which is necessary in order to contribute to limit our CO2 emissions to acceptable levels. While today’s lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have indeed initiated the electrification of the transportation section successfully, electric vehicles are still expensive and typically have ranges limited to ca. 5. 5. Energy Quality Management for Building Clusters and Districts Using a Multi-Objective Optimization Approach

    Author : Lu Hai; Martinac Ivo; Wallbaum Holger; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : As society develops, energy needs and the warnings of global warming have become main areas of focus in many areas of human life. One such aspect, the building sector, needs to take responsibility for a significant portion of energy use. Researchers need to concentrate on applying innovative methods for controlling the growth of energy use. READ MORE
