  1. 1. Neuroprotective Effect of Genistein : Studies in Rat Models of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Disease

    Author : Maryam Bagheri; Simin Mohseni; David Engblom; Jan Marcusson; Mark J. West; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) are neurodegenerative disorders that mainly affect the elderly population. It is believed that oxidative stress is involved in development of both these diseases and that estrogen deficiency is a risk factor for development of AD. READ MORE

  2. 2. Towards Pharmacological Treatment of Cystic Fibrosis

    Author : Charlotte Andersson; Aleksander Edelman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; cystic fibrosis; airway epithelium; genotype; CFTR; chloride transport; genistein; phenotype; phenylbutyrate; S-nitrosoglutathione; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; entomologi; Entomology;

    Abstract : S-nitrosogluthatione is an endogenous substance, present at decreased levels in the lungs of CF patients and was recently found to induce mature CFTR in airway epithelial CF cell lines. We show that S-nitrosoglutathione in physiological concentrations increases the presence of ΔF508 CFTR in the cell membrane and induces cAMP dependent chloride transport in cystic fibrosis airway epithelial cells. 3. 3. Hormones and sex steroid receptors in the female pig : effects of mating, artificial insemination, seminal plasma and genistein

    Author : Mattias Norrby; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Artificial insemination (AI) of sows and gilts is replacing mating in many countries. Another change over the last decades is that soya, rich in phytooestrogens, is routinely used in the diet to pigs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Expression and function of vascular estrogen receptors alpha and beta

    Author : Min Liang; Kärlfysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetologi; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; ubiquitin-proteasome pathway; MIP-2; MCP-1; iNOS; estrogen receptor knockout; estrogen receptor; aorta; estrogen;

    Abstract : Estrogen receptors (ER) are expressed not only in classical target organs for estrogen like breast and uterus, but also in male reproductive system as well as in non-reproductive organs such as brain, liver and bone. The functions of ER are quite well known in reproductive organs but less information is available regarding their function in vascular tissue. READ MORE

  5. 5. Functional Aspects of Epithelia in Cystic Fibrosis and Asthma

    Author : Zhanna Servetnyk; Godfried Roomans; Michael Wilschansky; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell biology; cystic fibrosis; CFTR; chloride transport; airway epithelium; sweat gland; asthma; corticosteroids; montelukast; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : The cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), a cAMP activated chloride channel in the apical membrane of epithelial cells, is defective in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Research efforts are focused on chloride channel function in order to find a cure for the disease. READ MORE
