  1. 21. Geochemical Characterization of Historical W, Cu and F Skarn Tailings at Yxsjöberg, Sweden : With focus on scheelite weathering and tungsten (W) mobility

    Author : P.B Lina Hällström; Lena Alakangas; Olof Martinsson; Carlos Ayora; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tillämpad geokemi; Applied Geochemistry;

    Abstract : Little attention has been paid to tailings from skarn ore deposits and their environmental impact, even though they can contain elevated content of elements of potential concern. Historical skarn tailings from a former scheelite mine at Yxsjöberg, Sweden, containing e.g. READ MORE

  2. 22. Source, mobility and fate of critical Be, Bi, F and W from historical sulfidic-oxidic skarn tailings : Re-mining as remediation method?

    Author : Lina Hällström; Lena Alakangas; Olof Martinsson; Heather Jamieson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tillämpad geokemi; Applied Geochemistry;

    Abstract : There is a potential risk that geochemical cycles of several critical metals will be affected in the pristine environment, when mining of these metals increases to meet the demand in green technology. The identification of critical metals is based on the economic importance and vulnerability to supply restrictions. READ MORE

  3. 23. Geochemical and Mineralogical Characterization of Waste Rocks for Preliminary Mine Drainage Quality Prediction

    Author : Teemu Karlsson; Lena Alakangas; Päivi Kauppila; Berndt Lottermoser; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mine waste characterisation; mine drainage water; ARD; NRD; aqua regia extraction; ABA test; NAG test; SEM mineralogy; sulfide minerals; risk assessment; Applied Geochemistry; Tillämpad geokemi;

    Abstract : Acid or neutral rock drainage (ARD or NRD) with its attendant elevated concentrations of harmful elements presents one of the main challenges related to the management of waste rocks. Low-quality drainage is a particular issue with respect to mineral deposits containing sulfide minerals, of which pyrite and pyrrhotite are especially prone to produce acidic drainage when exposed to oxygen and water. 4. 24. Geochemical and mineralogical laboratory methods in waste rock drainage quality prediction

    Author : Teemu Karlsson; Lena Alakangas; Päivi Kauppila; Andrew Barnes; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Extractive waste characterisation; drainage water; ARD; NRD; ABA test; NAG test; SEM; Applied Geochemistry; Tillämpad geokemi;

    Abstract : Harmful substances containing acid or neutral rock drainages (ARD and NRD) are a major challenge related to the management of extractive industry wastes. This issue is particularly related to deposits containing sulphide minerals, which are prone to oxidization under the influence of atmospheric oxygen and water. READ MORE

  5. 25. Green liquor dregs-amended till to cover sulfidic mine waste

    Author : Susanne Nigéus; Christian Maurice; Thomas Pabst; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geochemistry; Tillämpad geokemi;

    Abstract : The mining industry produces massive amounts of waste that without treatment and in contact with oxygen can result in acid rock drainage (ARD) and increased leaching of metals. In Sweden, the common way to manage the mine waste after closure is to apply a dry coverage on top of the waste deposition. READ MORE
