  1. 1. A Broad View on the Interpretation of Electromagnetic Data (VLF, RMT, MT, CSTMT)

    Author : Behrooz Oskooi; Laust Börsting Pedersen; Thorkild Mack Rasmussen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; Airborne; azimuthal anisotropy; CSTMT; distortion; EM; geothermal; Hengill; mineralization; MT; peaker; resolution; RMT; tipper; tensor VLF; VLF; Geofysik; Geophysics; Geofysik;

    Abstract : The resolution power of single Very Low Frequency (VLF) data and multi-frequency Radiomagnetotelluric (RMT) data in delineating conductive structures typical for the sedimentary cover and crystalline basement in Scandinavia is studied with a view to future developments of the technique to increasing the frequency range into the LW radio band. Airborne and ground VLF data are interpreted and correlated with RMT measurements made on the ground to better understand the resolution power of VLF data. READ MORE

  2. 2. High-Temperature Cooling Systems for Sustainable Buildings Using Geothermal Energy : Holistic Assessment in the Mediterranean Climate

    Author : Henrikki Pieskä; Johan Silfwerbrand; Adnan Ploskic; Qian Wang; Sture Holmberg; Sasan Sadrizadeh; Ambrose Dodoo; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Radiant cooling; Geothermal cooling; Energy efficiency; Thermal comfort; Sustainable development; Strålningskylsystem; Geotermisk kyla; Energieffektivitet; Termisk komfort; Hållbar utväckling; Strömnings- och klimatteori; Fluid and Climate Theory;

    Abstract : Sustainable development is increasing its significance in both the scientific and political agenda. In light of this development, the United Nations have published 17 Sustainable development goals (SDGs). READ MORE

  3. 3. Non-linear inverse geothermal problems

    Author : Dennis Wokiyi; Vladimir Kozlov; Fredrik Berntsson; Mårten Gulliksson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The inverse geothermal problem consist of estimating the temperature distribution below the earth’s surface using temperature and heat-flux measurements on the earth’s surface. The problem is important since temperature governs a variety of the geological processes including formation of magmas, minerals, fosil fuels and also deformation of rocks. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the impact of temperature perturbations on the creep of sensitive clay

    Author : Yanling Li; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thermal cycles; sensitive clays; oedometer tests; temperature; natural bonding; apparent preconsolidation pressure; multi-physics modelling; geothermal; static thermal loading;

    Abstract : Temperature affects the soil response, but is not fully understood and quantified and thus often ignored. The temperature fluctuations resulting from energy foundations and construction activities, such as excavations and soil stabilization, however, may lead to changes in the hydromechanical response of the clay. 5. 5. Fluid-rock interaction in two seismically active areas : The Tjörnes Fracture Zone, northern Iceland and the Shillong Plateau, northeastern India

    Author : Lillemor Claesson; Alasdair Skelton; Steven Ingebritsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : Tjörnes Fracture Zone; Shillong Plateau; Iceland; India; hydrogeochemical monitoring; earthquakes; geothermal; transition metals; dissolution; basalt; feldspar weathering; source switching; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : Hydrogeochemical monitoring can improve our understanding of fluid-rock interaction, and may detect anomalies that are precursory to- or caused by- earthquakes. In this study, hydrogeochemical monitoring was carried out in two distinct tectonic settings, to study coupling between hydrogeochemical changes and seismic activity. READ MORE
