  1. 1. Groundwater impact assessment and protection

    Author : Åse Eliasson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Physically-based groundwater modelling; contamination; flow and solute transport; glaciofluvial deposits; Nybroåsen; Sweden; and multi-criteria decision-aid;

    Abstract : In the recent decades, therehave been frequent conflicts between groundwater waterresources and environmentally hazardous activities. Newmethodologies for aiding decision-making in groundwater impactassessment and protection areneeded and in which issues ofincreased awareness, better understanding of the groundwaterresources processes, and validation of predictive mathematicalmodels are addressed. 2. 2. Sandgrunnorna in Lule Archipelago : Recent Transformation of a Glaciofluvial Deposit in an Environment of Land Uplift

    Author : Göran Albjär; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In an area of rapid land uplift the geomorphological evolution of the glaciofluvial island of Sandgrunnorna, 25 km SE Luleå, in the Bothnian Bay, is discussed from old maps, air photographs and field studies. The island were marked on a map for the first time in 1790, but the highest parts can be estimated to have reached the sea surface about 100 years earlier. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sedimentology and Geomorphology of Glacial Landforms in Southern Sweden : Studying the Landscape of a Melting Ice Sheet

    Author : Gustaf Peterson Becher; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glacial geology; Geomorphology; Sedimentology; Glaciology; Tunnel-valley; Glaciofluvial meltwater corridor; Murtoo; Småland;

    Abstract : Ice sheets are disintegrating due to global warming. One factor controlling ice-sheet behavior is the processes active beneath the ice sheet. In particular, processes connected to glacial meltwater drainage are essential to understand ice-sheets behavior in a warming climate. READ MORE

  4. 4. Alpine lake sediment archives and catchment geomorphology : causal relationships and implications for paleoenvironmental reconstructions

    Author : Lena Rubensdotter; Gunhild Rosqvist; Ingmar Borgström; Eve Arnold; Jens-Ove Näslund; Catherine Souch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; alpine lakes; geomorphology; lacustrine sedimentation; slope processes; glaciofluvial; Holocene; Swedish Lapland; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Lake sediments are frequently used as archives of climate and environmental change. Minerogenic sediment variability in alpine lakes is often used to reconstruct past glacier and slope process activity. Alpine lake sediments can however have many different origins, which may induce errors in paleoenvironmental reconstructions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Glacial geology and palaeo-ice dynamics of two ice-sheet margins, Taymyr Peninsula, Siberia and Jameson Land, East Greenland

    Author : Helena Alexanderson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice dynamics; Pleistocene; Arctic Siberia; East Greenland; Sedimentology; Physical geography; Sedimentologi; pedology; geomorphology; klimatologi; kartografi; marklära; geomorfologi; cartography; Fysisk geografi; ice-marginal processes; glacial history; climatology;

    Abstract : The North Taymyr ice-marginal zone (NTZ) on the Taymyr Peninsula, Arctic Siberia and the Ugleelv Valley on Jameson Land, East Greenland, have been investigated with the aim of reconstructing the glacial history, including depositional processes and environments. Geomorphological, sedimentological, stratigraphical and remote sensing methods have been combined to give a comprehensive view of developments in the two areas. READ MORE
