  1. 1. Studies of human endogenous retroviruses and of the TGF-beta signaling pathway

    Author : Christian Kjellman; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; high-density filter array; gliom; TGF-beta; XA34; Human endogenous retrovirus; HERV-F; transplantation; serologi; Immunologi; serology; Immunology;

    Abstract : The human genome, in common with all mammalian genomes, carries a high load of inheritable retroviral sequences. We have identified and characterized a novel family of these endogenous retroviruses and have named this family HERV-F as based on the primer binding sites of three members. READ MORE

  2. 2. The quest for new improved adenovirus gene therapy vectors against glioma tumours

    Author : Johan Skog; Göran Wadell; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gene therapy; virology; adenovirus; glioma; glioblastoma; Genterapi; virologi; adenovirus; gliom; glioblastom; Virology; Virologi;

    Abstract : Gene therapy has received much attention the last decade as a method to correct a number of disorders arising from a defective gene. Gene therapy can be defined as the introduction of a functional genetic element into a cell for a therapeutic purpose. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cognitive Deficits Reflecting Diffuse and Focal Brain Lesions Caused by Slow Growing Brain Tumors - Low-grade Gliomas

    Author : Lena Ek; Ove Almkvist; Anja Smits; Hans Samuelsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cognition; low-grade glioma; brain tumor; diffuse brain injury; neuropsychological tests; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : The overall purpose was to characterize the impact that low-grade glioma (LGG) – a type of slowly growing brain tumor – has on cognitive functions. Paper I was an in-depth analysis of cognitive dysfunction of patients with histological proven LGG. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies on the Roles of PDGFRA and EGFR in the Classification and Identification of Therapeutic Targets for Human Gliomas

    Author : Dongfeng Chen; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gliomas; classification; EGFR; PDGFRA; FGF2; surface expression; cell proliferation;

    Abstract : Glioma is the most common type of primary tumor in the adult central nervous system (CNS). However, the current classification of gliomas is highly subjective and even inaccurate in some cases, which leads to clinical confusion and hinders the development of targeted therapies. READ MORE

  5. 5. Neural Progenitor Cells in malignancy and injury of the brain. A Trojan Horse fro gliomas?

    Author : Karin Staflin; CNS Genterapi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serologi; transplantation; Immunologi; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; Immunology; serology; Glioma; sub ventricular zone; neural progenitor cell;

    Abstract : Gliomas are neoplasms arising in the central nervous system (CNS), and constitute the most common primary brain tumor. They are classified depending on the grade and morphology, from grade I, pilocytic astrocytoma, to grade IV, glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Glioblastomas constitute a great challenge in treatment due to their disseminating nature. READ MORE
