  1. 1. Dynamics of the glomerular filtration barrier - Physiological and pathophysiological aspects

    Author : Josefin Axelsson; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glomerular filtration barrier; Glomerular permeability; Microalbuminuria; Albumin; Ficoll; Sieving Coefficient; Rats;

    Abstract : The dynamic properties of the glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) are of fundamental importance for the understanding of the physiology and pathophysiology of microalbuminuria and proteinuric diseases. In the studies of this doctoral thesis the properties of the rat glomerular filtration barrier were investigated under resting conditions and following a number of challenges using highly sensitive gel filtration chromatography (HPSEC) detection of FITC-Ficoll in serum and urine. 2. 2. Analysis of Transvascular Transport Phenomena in the glomerular and peritoneal microcirculation

    Author : CARL ÖBERG; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Peritoneal dialysis; glomerular filtration barrier; pore model; automated peritoneal dialysis APD ; three-pore model;

    Abstract : The current work is devoted entirely to the study of passive transport phenomena, or more specifically, the more simple diffusion, electric migration and filtration of solute matter and water over glomerular and peritoneal capillary walls. The driving forces behind such trans-capillary transport phenomena have long been assumed to be simple gradients of concentration, hydrostatic pressure and electric potential. READ MORE

  3. 3. Properties of the endothelial cells and the glomerular barrier

    Author : Jenny Sörensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Capillary permeability; kidney glomerulus physiology; isolated perfused kidney; endothelium; orosomucoid; charge; horseradish peroxidase; inflammation; proteoglycan; cAMP.;

    Abstract : The kidneys are vital organs that filter plasma to produce 180 liters of primary urine per day. Only 1% of this volume is excreted and the rest is reabsorbed. Naturally, such huge amounts of fluid must be well controlled to maintain the homeostasis, which is a prerequisite for life. READ MORE

  4. 4. Physiological and morphological aspects of the glomerular barrier in health and disease. Results based on experimental studies in the rat

    Author : Clara Hjalmarsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : glomerular permeability; isolated perfused kidney; charge; endothelial surface layer; glycocalyx; electron microscopy; orosomucoid; nephrotic syndrome; proteinuria;

    Abstract : Tremendous amounts of fluid are filtered every day through the kidneys. The anastomosing capillary loops surrounded by Bowman s capsule, forming the glomerulus, function in accordance with the interplay between the hydrostatic and the colloid osmotic pressure. The result of the action of these mechanisms is the production of primary urine. READ MORE

  5. 5. Physiological aspects of the glomerular filtration barrier

    Author : Kristinn Sverrisson; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Proteinuria is associated with progression of kidney disease and is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The pathophysiological alterations resulting in proteinuria are obscure, although proteinuria is often associated with pathological changes in the glomerular filtration barrier (GFB). READ MORE
