  1. 1. Epidemiology of kidney failure and glomerulonephritis in Sweden. Hereditary and non-hereditary factors

    Author : Delshad Akrawi; kardiovaskulär epidemiologi och levnadsvanor Allmänmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; kidney failure; glomerulonephritis; epidemiological study; Familial relative risk;

    Abstract : Background: Kidney disease is recognised as an important worldwide health burden. Kidney failure is the result of acute and chronic kidney disease and is associated with morbidity and mortality. Chronic kidney failure is associated with high-costs for society and low quality of life. READ MORE

  2. 2. Autoimmunity in glomerulonephritis; serological diagnosis and clinical outcome with special reference to Wegener´s granulomatosis and microscopic polyangiitis

    Author : Kerstin Westman; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Wegener´s granulomatosis; vasculitis; thyroid peroxidase antibodies; proteinase 3; myeloperoxidase; antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies; ANCA; thyroiditis; autoantibodies; glomerulonephritis; microscopic polyangiitis; Urology; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi;

    Abstract : Autoantibodies of different specificites have been described in association with glomerulonephritis and therefore the aim of this thesis was to improve our knowledge of the different manifestations of autoimmune phenomena which are involved in the glomerulonephritides. Special reference is made to Wegener´s granulomatosis (WG) and microscopic polyangiitis (MP) which are frequently associated with the prevalence of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA). 3. 3. Urinary Biomarkers and Patient Outcome in Chronic Kidney Disease and Atherosclerotic Heart Disease: The value of IgM-uria and IgG-uria

    Author : Rafid Tofik; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteinuria; Albuminuria; urine IgM; urine IgG; glomerulonephritis; chronic kidney disease; atherosclerosis; cardiovascular disease; diabetic kidney disease.;

    Abstract : Risk stratification of patients with chronic kidney disease and atherosclerotic heart disease is crucial. Microalbuminuria (MA) is associated with an increased risk of kidney and cardiovascular (CV) death, especially in patients with diabetes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Endogenous proteins as markers of glomerular function and dysfunction

    Author : Jan Tencer; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glomerular filter; amyloidosis; glomerulonephritis; glomerular disease; proteins; proteinuria; Urology; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi;

    Abstract : Plasma and urine concentrations of endogenous proteins are frequently used in the diagnosis of kidney diseases and in studies of glomerular filter function. The main issues addressed in these studies were: storage of urine samples for subsequent protein analysis, use of protein concentrations in urine and in plasma in health and as markers of glomerular diseases, and the application of renal plasma-to-urine clearance of endogenous proteins in estimating the size-selectivity properties of the glomerular capillary wall. 5. 5. Molecular dissection of the Goodpasture epitope

    Author : Thomas Hellmark; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urologi; autoimmune; anti-GBM nephritis; glomerulonephritis; nephrology; Urology; nefrologi;

    Abstract : Goodpasture disease is a prototype autoimmune disease that is characterized by a rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis, with or without lung haemorrhage, associated with autoantibodies against the glomerular basement membrane. The major antigen has previously been shown to be the non-collagenous domain of the a3 chain of type IV collagen, one of the six known a chains of type IV collagen. READ MORE
