1. Anaerobic treatment of wastewater in a UASB reactor
Abstract : The anaerobic treatment of waste water has been studied with an emphasis on the Up- flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactor. A model to describe the processes occurring in a UASB reactor was developed and an experimental study of the anaerobic wastewater treatment systems in Nicaragua was also performed. READ MORE

2. Quench-Condensed Metallic Clusters Studied by Single Electron Tunneling
Abstract : Using angle deposition through conventional electron-beam lithographic masks as the sample resistance was measured in situ, we defined constrictions with widths and lengths of about 5 nm in thin (1-3) nm granular films. The nominal film thickness in the constriction could be varied stepwise by in situ film depositions, changing the grain size and the configuration of the tunneling paths. READ MORE

3. Microwave measurement techniques for industrial process monitoring and quality control
Abstract : Process monitoring and quality control by sensor measurements are essential for the automatisation and optimisation of many industrial manufacturing processes. This thesis is concerned with microwave sensing, which is a measurement modality with potential to improve the in-line sensing capabilities in several industries. READ MORE

4. Platelet reactions in the non-self recognition of material surfaces
Abstract : Every material introduced into the body in order to function in contact with a living tissue is defined as a biomaterial. Biomaterials are used throughout the world in an increasing rate to replace and augment organ functions. The insertion of an implant into the human body will initiate blood coagulation at the surface of the material. READ MORE

5. Characterization of (Ba,Sr)TiO3 thin films for multiplier applications
Abstract : (Ba,Sr)TiO3 (BSTO) and SrTiO3 (STO) parallel plate ferroelectric varactors are investigated for microwave multiplier applications.STO and BSTO exhibit low losses, high permittivity and largetunability of both permittivity and losses. All films are deposited using Pulsed Laser Deposition, magnetron sputtering and E-beam evaporation. READ MORE
