1. Ion Solvation in Critical Binary Aqueous Solvents Probed by Advanced Synchrotron-Based Techniques
Abstract : The Poisson-Boltzmann equation is the standard tool for studying the electrostatic interactions in electrolyte solutions, although it neglects e.g. the ion size and ion-ion correlations. Even experimentally observed specific ion effects cannot be explained in a view of this approximation. READ MORE

2. Model catalysts studied by x-rays, visible and infrared light
Abstract : This work is focused on the study of transition metal model catalysts for gas-phase heterogeneous catalysis, studied with light-based in-situ and operando techniques.Metallic model catalysts, such as Palladium (Pd) and Iridium (Ir) single crystals and in minor part deposited Rhodium (Rh), were studied using a combination of x-ray and non x-ray techniques. 3. Protective and Nanoporous Alumina Films Studied in situ by X-ray and Electrochemical Methods
Abstract : In this thesis, the studies of native and anodic oxides on both aluminum model single crystal surfaces as well as on aluminum alloys found in applications are presented. The focus has been on the characterization in situ as the oxide is growing by an electrochemical process called anodization. READ MORE

4. In situ observations of tin deposition into nanoporous anodic aluminium oxide
Abstract : AbstractIn this thesis, the electrochemical deposition process of Sn into ordered nanoporous anodic aluminium oxide (NP-AAO) have been studied. The deposition process was studied in situ using the X-ray techniques: X-ray diffraction (XRD), Grazing incidence Transmission Small-Angle X-ray Scattering (GTSAXS), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) and X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) and ex situ using Focused Ion Beam-Scanning Electron Microscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy measurements.
