  1. 1. Managing Service Levels in Grid Computing Systems : Quota Policy and Computational Market Approaches

    Author : Thomas Sandholm; Lennart Johnsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Grid Market; Computational Grid; Service Level Management; QoS; HPC; Grid Middleware; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : We study techniques to enforce and provision differentiated service levels in Computational Grid systems. The Grid offers simplified provisioning of peak-capacity for applications with computational requirements beyond local machines and clusters, by sharing resources across organizational boundaries. Abstract : The utilisation of the THz spectrum ( 0.3-10 THz ) is hampered by fundamental difficulties in generating power at these frequencies. READ MORE

  3. 3. Off the grid

    Author : Mike Bode; Staffan Schmidt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; artistic research; visual concepts; situated image; dialogue; ecological and political engagement; off grid living; housing estate suburbia; travel; self-definition; community; institution; isomorphic; lived third space;

    Abstract : Off the grid is an artistic research thesis which puts a Swedish housing estate in a video interview dialogue with homeowners in the Northeastern US through focusing on three topics: travel, self-definition, and community. Based on the situated, visual and conceptual image the project merges seemingly incompatible experiences: eight residents in Husby, an immigrant community outside Stockholm, and eight households not connected to the utility grid, in upstate areas of New England and New York State – and two artistic researchers at University of Gothenburg. 4. 4. Sustainability of rural energy access in developing countries

    Author : Brijesh Mainali; Semida Silveira; Benjamin Sovacool; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy Access; Rural electrification; Rural energy; Household; Renewable energy; Off-grid; Mini-grid; Grid; Pathways; Fuel choice; Indicator; Sustainability index; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : The importance of access to modern energy has been well understood by governments and donor agencies in many developing countries, and significant effort has been made in recent years to address energy access challenges. However, despite these efforts, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has predicted that the energy access problem will remain unresolved by 2030. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evaluation and variability of power grid hosting capacity for electric vehicles : Case studies of residential areas in Sweden

    Author : Maria Sandström; Erik Dotzauer; Chris Bales; Pei Huang; Björn Laumert; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hosting capacity HC ; Power grid; Electric vehicle EV ; Charging strategies; Power flow simulations; Uncertainty analysis; Hållbar stadsutveckling; Sustainable Urban Development; inget Strategiskt forskningsområde SFO ; no Strategic Research Area SFO ;

    Abstract : Electric vehicles (EVs) are increasing in popularity and play an important role in decarbonizing the transport sector. However, a growing EV fleet can cause problems for power grids as the grids are not initially designed for EV charging. The potential of a power grid to accommodate EV loads can be assessed through hosting capacity (HC) analysis. READ MORE
