  1. 1. Prediction of Strong Ground Motion and Hazard Uncertainties

    Author : Behrooz Tavakoli; Ota Kulhanek; Dieter Mayer-Rosa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; Disaggregation; Ground motion; Monte Carlo simulation; Seismic hazard; Geofysik; Geophysics; Geofysik; Geofysik med inriktning mot seismologi; Geophysics with specialization in Seismology;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to provide a detailed description of recent methods and scientific basis for characterizing earthquake sources within a certain region with distinct tectonic environments. The focus will be on those characteristics that are most significant to the ground-shaking hazard and on how we can incorporate our current knowledge into hazard analyses for engineering design purposes. 3. 3. Motion Vision Processing in Fly Lobula Plate Tangential Cells

    Author : Yu-Jen Lee; Karin Nordström; Holger Kraap; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hoverflies; EMD; higher order motion; octopamine; cSIFE; figure-ground discrimination; motion vision; lobula plate tangential cells;

    Abstract : Flies are highly visually guided animals. In this thesis, I have used hoverflies as a model for studying motion vision. Flies process motion vision in three visual ganglia: the lamina, the medulla, and the lobula complex. In the posterior part of lobula complex, there are around 60 lobula plate tangential cells (LPTCs). READ MORE

  4. 4. Space in motion : the art of activating space in-between

    Author : Monica Sand; Abdellah Abarkan; Annette Arlander; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; in-between; dispersed production; producer observer; bridge; swing; penelope; Architecture; Arkitektur; Art; Konstvetenskap;

    Abstract : As a contribution to the emerging field of practice-based research in the arts, this thesis aims to activate space, experience and the concept in-between. As the in-between cannot be defined ahead of the rhythmic process it carries out and of which it is a part – a rhythm inherent in the city itself and in knowledge production – it is necessary to produce rhythmic relations between bodies, sites and concepts. 5. 5. Orientation and motion in the world’s languages : From field studies to cross-linguistic comparison

    Author : Maja Robbers; Harald Hammarström; Anetta Kopecka; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; spatial relations; motion events; diversity linguistics; language typology; frames of reference; Linguistics; Lingvistik;

    Abstract : Human life frequently involves spatial orientation and motion, and natural languages express manifold aspects of spatial perception in diverse ways. The articles included in this thesis delve into several of these aspects and explore space and motion from multiple perspectives, ranging from a dedicated field study of within-language variation systems to cross-linguistic comparisons of various orientation and motion aspects.
