2. Clinical management of children with type I diabetes mellitus : a prospective, randomized psycho-educational intervention trial
Abstract : The basic question addressed in this investigation was: is it possible to exert a significant influence on the course of diabetes mellitus in children by the use of a specific initial management regimen? The conventionally, hospital care treatment regimen (control group) was compared to a multi-disciplinary programme for family-oriented crises intervention with a learn-by-doing pedagogy and care in a therapeutic environment (study group). Abstract : The proportions of newborns with a birth weight (BW) >4,000 g and of macrosomic newborns (BW >4,500 g) have increased during the last two decades, parallel with an increasing maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) and age at the time for pregnancy.
