  1. 1. Pedestrian Shoulder and Spine Kinematics and their Influence on Head Kinematics

    Author : Ruth Paas; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PMHS; THUMS; kinematics; spine; head; shoulder; Human Body Model; pedestrian accidents; pedestrian;

    Abstract : Pedestrian to vehicle crashes still represent a major health issue worldwide. In order to prevent fatalities and injuries during the in-crash phase of a pedestrian accident, a sound understanding of pedestrian in-crash kinematics is required and Human Body Models (HBMs) are valuable tools when studying such kinematics. 2. 2. Physical Modeling of Brain and Head Kinematics

    Author : Johan Ivarsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; brain injury; skull base; rotational acceleration; physical models; lateral ventricles; head kinematics; padding materials; sulci; free motion headform; brain kinematics;

    Abstract : The development of head injury criteria and countermeasures for head protection requires understanding of how different factors affect brain and head kinematics. In this thesis, 2D physical models of the human head were developed and used to evaluate how various factors affect brain kinematics during angular head kinematics. READ MORE

  3. 3. Head kinematics in car–pedestrian crashes: The influence of sliding, spine bending, elbow and shoulder impacts

    Author : Ruth Paas; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Human Body Model; shoulder; kinematics; pedestrian; THUMS; spine; PMHS; head;

    Abstract : In vehicle–pedestrian crashes, head injuries account for an overwhelming percentage of all severe and fatal injuries. These injuries are caused by the linear acceleration and rotation of the head. To mitigate head injuries, tools such as Human Body Models (HBMs) are used in the development and evaluation of pedestrian safety systems. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biomechanical assessment of head and neck movements in neck pain using 3D movement analysis

    Author : Helena Grip; Gertjan Ettema; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : movement analysis; kinematics; helical axis; neck pain; whiplash; cervical spine; pattern classification; motor control; head-eye co-ordination; head movement; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Biomedical Radiation Science;

    Abstract : Three-dimensional movement analysis was used to evaluate head and neck movement in patients with neck pain and matched controls. The aims were to further develop biomechanical models of head and neck kinematics, to investigate differences between subjects with non-specific neck pain and whiplash associated disorders (WAD), and to evaluate the potential of objective movement analysis as a decision support during diagnosis and follow-up of patients with neck pain. 5. 5. Kinematics and Internal Deformation of Granular Slopes

    Author : Zhina Liu; Hemin Koyi; Dominique Frizon de Lamotte; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; granular flow; kinematics; internal deformation; particle flow method; analogue modeling; natural landslides; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : Flow-like mass movement is the most destructive landslide and causes loss of lives and substantial property damage throughout the world every year. This thesis focuses on the spatial and temporal changes of the mass movement in terms of velocity and displacement within the failure mass, and the spatial and temporal distribution of the three dimensional internal deformation of the granular slopes using discrete element method, physical experiments, and natural landslides.
