  1. 1. Experimental Investigations of Combustion Chamber Heat Transfer in a Light-Duty Diesel Engine

    Author : Jessica Dahlström; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : internal combustion engines; heat transfer; diesel engine; Diesel combustion; combustion chamber geometry; piston geometry; spray parameters;

    Abstract : This work concerned experimental studies of heat transfer in a light-duty diesel engine. Combustion is affected by several parameters, such as pressure, engine speed, mass of injected fuel and in-cylinder gas flow. These parameters are in turn affected by the combustion chamber geometry and fuel spray characteristics. READ MORE

    Abstract : U-pipe Borehole Heat Exchangers (BHE) are widely used today in ground source heating and cooling systems in spite of their less than optimal performance. This thesis provides a better understanding on the function of U-pipe BHEs and Investigates alternative methods to reduce the temperature difference between the circulating fluid and the borehole wall, including one thermosyphon and three different types of coaxial BHEs. 3. 3. Reduction of heat transfer and heat load in internal combustion engines

    Author : Joop Somhorst; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; efficiency; TBC; thermal barrier coating; surface roughness; engine; heat transfer; emissions; alumina; zirconia;

    Abstract : Thermal insulation of the combustion chamber in an engine has great potential to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Research on thermal barrier coatings (TBC) has been performed since the early eighties to address this potential. READ MORE

  4. 4. A planetary chamber to investigate the thermal and water cycle on Mars

    Author : Abhilash Vakkada Ramachandran; María-Paz Zorzano; Javier Martin-Torres; Akos Kereszturi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mars; space chamber; ISRU; water cycle simulation; pure liquid water; habitability; heat transfer; Atmospheric science; Atmosfärsvetenskap;

    Abstract : The water processes that affect the upper layers of the surface of Mars are not yet fully understood. Describing the processes that may induce changes in the water content ofthe surface is critical to determine the present-day habitability of the Martian surface,understand the atmospheric water cycle, and estimate the efficiency of future water extraction procedures from the regolith for In-Situ-Resource-Utilization (ISRU). 5. 5. Numerical and Experimental Investigations of Design Parameters Defining Gas Turbine Nozzle Guide Vane Endwall Heat Transfer

    Author : Frank G. Rubensdörffer; Torsten Fransson; Albin Bölcs; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Turbomachinery; secondary flow; endwall heat transfer; linear cascade test facility; CFD; RANS; V2F turbulence model; combustion chamber nozzle guide vane interface; heat shield; cavity; cooling air; Mechanical energy engineering; Mekanisk energiteknik;

    Abstract : The primary requirements for a modern industrial gas turbine consist of a continuous trend of an increasing efficiency combined with very low emissions in a robust, cost-effective manner. To fulfil these tasks a high turbine inlet temperature together with advanced dry low NOX combustion chambers are employed. READ MORE
