  1. 6. Mangafodipir trisodium (MnDPDP)-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging of the liver and pancreas

    Author : Chen Wang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Liver; pancreas; neoplasms; metastases; endocrine tumor; MR imaging; contrast medium; mangafodipir trisodium; MnDPDP; manganese; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; diagnostisk radiologi; Diagnostic Radiology;

    Abstract : Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the liver and pancreas is frequently performed to improve the sensitivity and specificity of lesion detection in these organs. The concept of using tissue-specific contrast media is to selectively enhance the normal parenchyma, but not lesions, so that the contrast between tumorous and normal tissue is increased, and lesion detectability improved. 2. 7. Biopharmaceutical Evaluation of Intra-arterial Drug-Delivery Systems for Liver Cancer : Investigations in healthy pigs and liver cancer patients

    Author : Elsa Lilienberg; Hans Lennernäs; Erik Sjögren; Niklas Axén; Helen M. Burt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; in vivo release; drug delivery systems; local delivery; drug disposition; doxorubicin; hepatocellular carcinoma; transarterial chemoembolization; transarterial chemotherapy infusion; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Abstract : There are currently two types of intra-arterial drug-delivery system (DDS) in clinical use in the palliative treatment of primary liver cancer. The chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin (DOX) can be formulated into a drug-in-lipiodol emulsion (LIPDOX) or a microparticulate drug-eluting bead system (DEBDOX). READ MORE

  3. 8. TGFβ and LXR signaling in hepatocellular carcinoma

    Author : Claudia Bellomo; Aristidis Moustakas; Lars Holmgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hepatocellular Carcinoma; high-throughput imaging; small molecules; epithelial plasticity; LXR; Snail; TGFβ; tumor suppression; reactive oxygen species; cancer-associated fibroblast; myofibroblast; Smad3; αSMA;

    Abstract : Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most prevalent cancer types in the Western world and in the Asia-pacific regions, with its incidence expected to rise up to 22 million cases till 2020. Hepatocellular carcinoma etiology is mainly due to hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) infections, and to a lesser extent it is determined by the development of alcohol-driven cirrhosis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). 4. 9. Stress susceptibility, beta-blocker use and cancer survival

    Author : Ruzan Udumyan; Katja Fall; Scott Montgomery; Fang Fang; Edoardo Botteri; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stress resilience; β-blockers; primary cancer; survival analysis; overall mortality; cancer-specific mortality; register-based cohort study;

    Abstract : Accumulating evidence suggests that chronic stress may influence tumour biology through activation of neuroendocrine pathways and thus impair survival. However, measuring stressful exposures and their influence on health is challenging, partly due to substantial inter-individual variation in stress susceptibility. READ MORE

  5. 10. Biopharmaceutical investigations of doxorubicin formulations used in liver cancer treatment : Studies in healthy pigs and liver cancer patients, combined with pharmacokinetic and biopharmaceutical modelling

    Author : Ilse R Dubbelboer; Hans Lennernäs; Erik Sjögren; Hartmut Derendorf; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; drug delivery system; in vivo release; PBPK modelling; hepatocellular carcinoma; doxorubicin; transarterial chemoembolization; drug disposition; Biofarmaci; Biopharmaceutics; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Abstract : There are currently two types of drug formulation in clinical use in the locoregional treatment of intermediate hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In the emulsion LIPDOX, the cytostatic agent doxorubicin (DOX) is dissolved in the aqueous phase, which is emulsified with the oily contrast agent Lipiodol® (LIP). READ MORE
