  1. 1. Physics at the High-Energy Frontier Phenomenological Studies of Charged Higgs Bosons and Cosmic Neutrino Detection

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Oscar Stål; Uppsala universitet.; [2009]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; particle physics; Standard Model; beyond the Standard Model; supersymmetry; Higgs physics; charged Higgs boson; LHC; flavour physics; ultra-high-energy neutrinos; Askaryan effect; radio detection; lunar satellites; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics Elementary particle physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik Elementarpartikelfysik; högenergifysik; High Energy Physics;

    Abstract : The Standard Model of particle physics successfully describes present collider data. Nevertheless, theoretical and cosmological results call for its extension. A softly broken supersymmetric completion around the TeV scale solves several of the outstanding issues. Supersymmetry requires two Higgs doublets, leading to five physical Higgs states. READ MORE

  2. 2. Excursions Along the Drip Line

    University dissertation from Chalmers University of Technology

    Author : Thomas Nilsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola.; Chalmers University of Technology.; [1995]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik; Physics; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Lågenergifysik; Low energy physics; Mellanenergifysik; Middle energy physics; 6; 8He; 11Li; 11Be; neutron drip line; exotic nuclei; neutron halo; Borromean systems; dissociation; radioactivity; beta-decay; momentum distributions; reaction mechanism; neutron detection; cross-talk; gas-detector telescope;

    Abstract : The drip lines are the outer boundaries of the chart of the nuclides, terminating the isobaric chains on both sides of the valley of .beta.-stability with respect to stability against particle emission. The neutron drip line is, at the moment, only experimentally accessible for the very lightest elements. READ MORE

  3. 3. Nonlinear Evolution in High Energy QCD

    University dissertation from Theoretical High Energy Physics

    Author : Emil Avsar; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2007]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elementarpartikelfysik; quantum field theory; DIS; Elementary particle physics; Saturation; QCD; Small-x Physics; kvantfältteori; High energy interactions; cosmic rays; Kosmisk strålning; högenergi;

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish QCD vid höga energier är fortfarande inte väl förstådd. Svårigheter uppkommer ifrån en starkt icke-linjär dynamik, samt från icke-störningsmässiga fenomen. Analytiska beräkningar är oftast möjliga enbart för enkla leksaksmodeller, eller för asymptotiska energier. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aspects of Hadron Production in High-Energy Heavy-Ion Physics

    University dissertation from Department of Physics, Lund University

    Author : David Silvermyr; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2001]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RHIC; pad readout; electronic; chip-on-board; tracking; heavy-ion collisions; freeze-out temperature; delta resonance; SPS; WA98; PHENIX; Fysik; coherent peripheral; multiplicity; Physics; Fysicumarkivet A:2001:Silvermyr;

    Abstract : High-energy heavy-ion collisions provide a unique tool for the study of nuclear matter as a function of temperature and density. WA98 at the CERN SPS recorded data with a 158 A GeV Pb beam on a Pb target in 1996. To cope with the high charged-particle density, a tracking system based on high granularity multi-step avalanche detectors was developed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Investigations on Emission Sources in Proton-Nucleus and Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions

    University dissertation from Department of Physics, Lund University

    Author : Johan Mårtensson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2000]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High energy interactions; Fysik; Physics; correlation function.; fermion interferometry; t p and d p ratios; target mass dependence; pion angular distribution; pion excitation function; Heavy ion reactions; intermediate energy; cosmic rays; Kosmisk strålning; högenergi;

    Abstract : Emission sources in proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at intermediate energies have been studied. Pion excitation functions from the absolute threshold to 500 MeV have been measured with an ion beam of continuously varying energy with an energy resolution of 1 MeV. READ MORE
