1. High Octane Number Fuels in Advanced Combustion Modes for Sustainable Transportation
Abstract : The research community recently proposed a low-temperature combustion (LTC) concept that can simultaneously reduce Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and soot emissions while maintaining high engine efficiency. Given that diesel fuel is prone to preignition with early injection, gasoline-like fuel with high octane number is utilised to provide sufficient ignition delay and extend the load range. READ MORE

2. Towards High Efficiency Powertrains
Abstract : In recent years there has been a great shift whereby conventional vehicles powered by an internal combustion (IC) engine are being partially or completely replaced by electrified alternatives; almost all major automotive manufacturers have made statements indicating a shift towards electrification. This shift has been driven in large part by concerns about climate change, which have prompted lawmakers to introduce increasingly strict regulations limiting vehicular emissions, particularly of carbon dioxide (CO2). 3. Synthesis of Spiro-bicyclo[2.2.2]Octane Derivatives Towards the Development of Paclitaxel Mimetics
Abstract : Many of the drugs that are developed in the pharmaceutical industry have their origin in natural products. Paclitaxel, the active substance of the medicine Taxol, was found in the bark of the Pacific yew tree (Taxus brevifolia). READ MORE

4. A Detailed Modeling Study for Primary Reference Fuels and Fuel Mixtures and Their Use in Engineering Applications
Abstract : The aim of this work is to generate detailed and simplified kinetic models for the oxidation of the Primary Reference Fuels (PRF) n-heptane, iso-octane and their mixtures, with low numbers of species and reactions. These mechanisms are consistent in terms of the choice of kinetic parameters for the different reaction classes. READ MORE

5. Development of Dual-broadband Rotational CARS for Combustion Diagnostics
Abstract : The present thesis concerns development and application of dual-broadband rotational coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (DB-RCARS) for temperature and species concentration measurements in combustion processes. Both fundamental development of the technique, including experimental as well as modelling results, and measurements in practical combustion devices were conducted. READ MORE
