  1. 1. End-Shield Bridges for High-Speed Railway : Full scale dynamic testing and numerical simulations

    Author : Hesham Elgazzar; Jean-Marc Battini; Mahir Ülker-Kaustell; Morgan Johansson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high-speed railway; end-shield bridges; structural dynamics; soil structure interaction; full scale bridge testing; controlled forced excitation; hydraulic bridge exciter; frequency response function; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : The increasing need for High-Speed Railway (HSR) to reduce the travelling time requires increasing research within this field. Bridges are main components of any railway network, including HSR networks, and the optimization of their design for this purpose would contribute to a faster and more cost effective development of the HSR network. 2. 2. Vibration mitigation of high-speed railway bridges : Application of damping devices in theory and practice

    Author : Sarah Tell; Raid Karoumi; Andreas Andersson; Ülker-Kaustell Mahir; José Maria Goicolea; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vibration mitigation; high-speed railway bridges; damping devices; retrofit; numerical analysis; hybrid simulation; field experiment; vibrationsdämpning; järnvägsbroar för höghastighetståg; dämpare; eftermonteringsmetod; numerisk analys; hybridsimulering; fältförsök; Structural Engineering and Bridges; Bro- och stålbyggnad;

    Abstract : The dynamic response of railway bridges is an important aspect to consider, as the repetitive loading from passing trains may result in excessive vibrations of the bridge deck. Several design criteria are developed in order to assure the structural safety and passenger comfort during train crossings of a bridge. READ MORE

  3. 3. High strain-rate experiments using high-speed photography

    Author : Jörgen Kajberg; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : In many technical processes, material is deformed under conditions that contain high strain rates. Examples of such processes are collisions, impact, penetration, metal forming and crack propagation. Constitutive models including viscoplasticity have been proposed for these kinds of situations. 4. 4. Synchronous Reluctance Machine (SynRM) in Variable Speed Drives (VSD) Applications

    Author : Reza Rajabi Moghaddam; Chandur Sadarangani; Alfredo Vagati; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Synchronous Reluctance Machine SynRM ; Torque; Torque Ripple; Design; Optimization; FEM; Control; Standard Size; Measurement; Performance Comparison; Induction Machine IM ; Interior Permanent Magnet Machine IPM ; Variable Speed Drive VSD ; General Purpose GP ; Field Oriented Control FOC ; Direct Torque Control DTC ; Heat Run; Test; Thermal; Operation Diagram; Circle Diagram; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis is comprehensively dedicated to the theoretical and experimental reevaluation of the Synchronous Reluctance Machine (SynRM). A simple approach to derive the SynRM main characteristics and behavior is followed. An introduction to an evaluation of the different control strategies in is given. READ MORE

  5. 5. Laser Diagnostic Techniques with Ultra-High Repetition Rate for Studies in Combustion Environments

    Author : Jimmy Olofsson; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High-Speed; High Repetition Rate; LIF; PLIF; 3D Visualisation; Engine; Teknik; Technological sciences; Fysik; Physics; Combustion; Laserteknik; Laser technology; Laser-Induced Fluorescence; Laser Diagnostics;

    Abstract : When conducting laser based diagnostics in combustion environments it is often desirable to obtain temporally resolved information. This can be due to several factors such as combustion taking place in a turbulent flow field, flame propagation from a spark plug in an initially quiescent combustible mixture, or rapid, multi-point fuel consumption in a homogeneous charge as a result of compression ignition in an engine cycle.
