  1. 1. Design, Synthesis and Evaluation of Catalytic Chalcogenide Antioxidants

    Author : David Shanks; Lars Engman; John C Walton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; antioxidant; tellurium; selenium; computational design; homolytic substitution; radical cyclisation; microwave-assisted synthesis; antioxidant regeneration; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the design, synthesis and evaluation of novel chalcogenide antioxidants.A computational model for the prediction of antioxidant properties of chalcogen-containing antioxidants has been developed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Quantum Chemical Studies of Radical Cation Rearrangement, Radical Carbonylation, and Homolytic Substitution Reactions

    Author : Daniel Norberg; Nessima Salhi-Benachenhou; Sten Lunell; Tim Clark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Quantum chemistry; quantum chemistry; coupled-cluster; density functional theory; meta-GGA; reaction mechanism; potential energy surface; isomerization; fragmentation; dissociation; condensation; addition; SH2; hydrogen abstraction; iodine atom transfer; complex; weakly interacting system; hyperfine coupling constant; Kvantkemi;

    Abstract : Quantum chemical calculations have been performed to investigate radical cation rearrangement, radical carbonylation, and homolytic substitution reactions of organic molecules. The rearrangement of the bicyclopropylidiene radical cation to the tetramethyleneethane radical cation is predicted to proceed with stepwise disrotatory opening of the two rings. READ MORE

  3. 3. Synthesis, properties and applications of chalcogen-containing antioxidants

    Author : Jonas Malmström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : In the first part, the preparation and properties of chalcogen-containing vitamin E analogues are described. The sulfur compound 3,3,4,6,7-pentamethyl-2,3-dihydrobenzo[b]thiophene-5-ol was prepared by two different routes using ionic and radical chemistry. Interesting rearrangements were observed in the two synthetic pathways. READ MORE

  4. 4. Photoredox Catalysis Driven by Visible Light and Iron N-Heterocyclic Carbene Complexes

    Author : Lisa de Groot; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; photoredox catalysis; iron N-heterocyclic carbene complexes; Fe-NHC; Visible light; ATRA; BHAS;

    Abstract : Photoredox catalysis is a rapidly expanding field, in which organic transformations are catalysed using light. The most commonly used photoredox catalysts (PCs) are transition metal complexes which absorb in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. READ MORE
