  1. 1. Cardiovascular effects of growth hormone, IGF-I and growth hormone secretagogues

    Author : Åsa Tivesten; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : cardiovascular system; growth hormone; insulin-like growth factor-I; growth hormone secretagogues; echocardiography.;

    Abstract : Growth hormone (GH) may exert direct growth-promoting and metabolic actions on target tissues, but most of its effects are mediated by circulating (endocrine) or local (auto-/paracrine) insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I). The GH/IGF-I system has an important role during cardiac development and for maintaining the structure and function of the heart. READ MORE

  2. 2. Androgen-Independent Prostate Cancer - studies on angiogenesis and ADAMTS1

    Author : Helene Gustavsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Prostate cancer; Androgen-independent; Castration resistant; Hormone refractory; Angiogenesis; Microvessel density; ADAMTS1; LNCaP; VEGF; TSP1;

    Abstract : Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is the standard treatment for advanced prostate cancer since prostate tumors initially are dependent on androgens for growth. However, most tumors will eventually relapse and grow in a highly aggressive and androgen-independent (AI) manner. READ MORE

  3. 3. Metabolic responsiveness to growth hormone in children

    Author : Ralph Decker; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Individualized treatment; Growth hormone; Hormonal responsiveness; Metabolic outcome; Prediction model; Body composition; Insulin sensitivity; Leptin; Proteomics SELDI; Apolipoproteins; Thresholds of growth hormone effects; Protein patterns;

    Abstract : Metabolic effects of growth hormone (GH) therapy in short children have not been clearly established owing to the previous lack of controlled trials studying the metabolic outcome in response to different GH doses despite the known effects of GH on insulin sensitivity, lipid profile, and body composition. It has previously been shown that individualized GH doses during catch-up growth significantly reduce the proportion of unexpectedly good and poor responders around a predefined individual growth target in short prepubertal children. 4. 4. Effects of growth hormone on bone tissue in transgenic mice

    Author : Jonas Sandstedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone; bone; ovariectomy; orchidectomy; growth; Interleukin-6; titanium; transgenic mice;

    Abstract : Growth hormone (GH) affect bone-tissue in both humans and rodents. Also sex steroids are important for growth and the maintenance of normal bone physiology. The specific aims of this study were to investigate how high levels of GH affects bone tissue in mice and to determine whether these effects are dependent on an intact gonadal function. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effects of growth hormone on cardiovascular risk factors and atherosclerosis

    Author : Maria Leonsson Zachrisson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : growth hormone; pituitary deficiency; dietary fat; cholesterol; low density; lipoprotein; intima-media thickness; IL-6; CRP; TNF-á;

    Abstract : Hypopituitary patients with growth hormone (GH) deficiency (GHD) have increasedmorbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease (CVD). GH treatment has both beneficialand potentially negative cardiovascular effects. READ MORE
