  1. 11. Development and Application of Human Chromosome 22 Genomic Microarray : Chromosome 22-Associated Disorders Analyzed by Array-Based Comparative Genomic Hybridization

    Author : Magdalena Benetkiewicz; Jan Dumanski; Niklas Dahl; Frank Speleman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; DNA copy number changes; chromosome 22; genomic microarray; array-CGH; schwannoma; neurofibromatosis type 2; ovarian carcinoma; breast cancer; Wilms tumor; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik;

    Abstract : The array-based form of comparative genomic hybridization (array-CGH) is a new methodology that has shown to be of significant importance. This thesis focuses on the development of array-CGH with the aim to define candidate regions/genes on chromosome 22 in a wide spectrum of cancer-related conditions. READ MORE

  2. 12. Reconstructing the Human Past using Ancient and Modern Genomes

    Author : Pontus Skoglund; Mattias Jakobsson; John Novembre; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; population genetics; paleogenomics; human evolution; Evolutionary Genetics; Evolutionär genetik;

    Abstract : The study of DNA variation is one of the most promising avenues for learning about the evolutionary and historical past of humans and other species. However, the difficulty associated with obtaining DNA directly from ancient remains have for long kept genomic studies of population history trapped in time; confined to interpreting patterns of modern-day variation without direct historical observations. 3. 13. Investigation of Mechanics of Mutation and Selection by Comparative Sequencing

    Author : Michael C. Zody; Kerstin Lindblad-Toh; Leif Andersson; Chad Nusbaum; Henrik Kaessmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chicken; chimpanzee; human; evolution; segmental duplication; structural variation; chromosomal rearrangement; comparative genomics; positive selection; selective sweep; Genetics; Genetik; Genetics; genetik;

    Abstract : The process of evolution is of both scientific and medical interest. This thesis presents several studies using complete genomic reference sequences, comparative genomic data, and intraspecific diversity data to study the two key processes of evolution: mutation and selection. 4. 14. Pawsitive selection : Genetics of dog-human communication

    Author : Mia Persson; Per Jensen; Lina Roth; Dominic Wright; Ádám Miklósi; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Through domestication and recent selection, dogs have evolved a unique set of communicative skills to attract and redirect human attention. These social skills have not been seen to the same extent in socialised wolves and are therefore believed to have a significant genetic basis. READ MORE

  5. 15. Uncovering the Past through ancient DNA : The Fate and Legacy of the last hunter-gatherers in Western Europe and Northwestern Africa

    Author : Luciana G. Simões; Mattias Jakobsson; Torsten Günther; Cristina Valdiosera; Emma Svensson; Martin Sikora; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; human evolution; archaeogenomics; ancient DNA; population genetics; hunter-gatherer; Populationsbiologi; Population Biology; Genetik; Genetics;

    Abstract : The genetic analysis of ancient human remains has revolutionized the study of human history, opening a direct window onto the demographic and evolutionary events that shaped our species' past. I use state-of-the-art ancient DNA methodologies, from sample collection and DNA extraction to data analysis, to study the ancient past of the western Mediterranean region, where climate does not favour DNA preservation.
