  1. 1. Drug Transport and Metabolism in Rat and Human Intestine

    Author : Sofia Berggren; Hans Lennernäs; Janet Hoogstraate; Patrick Augustijns; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biopharmacy; Ussing chamber; microsome; single-pass perfusion; human; rat; intestine; permeability; efflux; P-glycoprotein; metabolism; cytochrome P450; ropivacaine; lidocaine; bupivacaine; Biofarmaci; PPX;

    Abstract : One of the aims of this thesis was to investigate the involvement of efflux proteins, such as the P-glycoprotein (Pgp), in the drug transport in different regions of the rat and the human intestine. The intestinal extrusion of intracellularly formed CYP3A4 metabolites, including whether this extrusion might be mediated by Pgp, was also studied. READ MORE

  2. 2. Proteomics-informed analysis of drug disposition in the human liver and small intestine

    Author : Christine Wegler; Per Artursson; Pär Matsson; Tommy B Andersson; Manthena Varma; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; proteomics; protein concentration; drug disposition; drug transport; drug metabolism; human small intestine; human liver; human hepatocytes; human liver microsomes; inter-individual variability; drug clearance; obesity; prediction model; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Abstract : Orally administered drugs are absorbed in the intestine and generally metabolized in the liver. Therefore, understanding factors determining drug distribution and elimination in these tissues is important. READ MORE

  3. 3. Specific and nonspecific immune mechanisms in human gut : a comparative study of normal and ulcerative colitis intestine

    Author : Moorix Mo-Wai Yeung; Sten Hammarström; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human intestine; ulcerative colitis; lymphoid aggregates; intraepithelial lymphocytes; lamina propria lymphocytes; γδT-cells; cytokines; IL-2; carcinoembryonic antigen; biliary glycoprotein; epithelial cells; glycocalyx;

    Abstract : The intestine, with its large mucosal surface area, digests and absorbs food nutrients and maintains a beneficial microbial flora in the colon. Local protective immune responses against intestinal pathogens ensure the survival of the individual. These immune reactions are both specific and non-specific in nature. READ MORE

  4. 4. Human intraepithelial lymphocytes : a comparative study of phenotype, morphology, and functional properties of intraepithelial lymphocytes in gut and oral mucosa

    Author : Carina Lundqvist; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Sten Hammarström; Per Brandtzaeg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human intraepithelial lymphocytes; alimentary tract; intestinal epithelium; gut luminal antigens; gingiva; γδ T cells; immunoelectron microscopy; cytokine mRNA; RT-PCR; extrathymic T cell maturation; RAG-1; periodontitis; mucosal immune system; CD4-CD8- αβ T cells; CD8 γδ T cells;

    Abstract : Human intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL) constitute a unique cell population situated in the first line of defense of the alimentary tract. Here they are continuously exposed to a massive antigenic load of high complexity. However, different conditions prevail along the alimentary tract. READ MORE

  5. 5. Expression of Genes Encoding for Drug Metabolism in the Small Intestine

    Author : Monica Lindell; Hans Lennernäs; Matti Lang; Olavi Pelkonen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biochemistry; CYPs; UGTs; interindividual variation; small intestine; human; rat; artemisinin; CAR-receptor regulation; Farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical biochemistry; Farmaceutisk biokemi;

    Abstract : This investigation focused on the mRNA expression of drug metabolising Cytochromes P-450 (CYP) and UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGT) and the transport protein P-glycoprotein (Pgp) in the small intestine of humans and rats.The mRNA expression of the investigated genes in the human small intestine (duodenum) varies between individuals giving each one of us personal profile.
