  1. 1. Experimental and Clinical Studies of SLPI, with Special Reference to IgE-Mediated Allergic Reactions

    Author : Ulla Westin; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; in situ hybridisation; immunohistochemistry; allergic rhinitis; atopic subjects; IgE-mediated histamine release; mast cell proteases; plasma protease inhibitors; SLPI; human leukocyte proteases; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : In this study we demonstrated the production of SLPI (Secretory Leukocyte Protease Inhibitor) in serous glands in the nasal mucosa. We have shown that the pattern of the expression of mRNA corresponds to the encoded protein. The encoded protein was detected by immunohistochemical methods and mRNA was discovered by in situ hybridisation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Secretory Leukocyte Protease Inhibitor (SLPI) in the gastrointestinal tract in man

    Author : Max Nyström; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; elastase inhibitors; human leukocyt proteases; Plasma protease inhibitors; NGAL; Ulcerative colitis; Antileukoprotease; IBD; traumatologi; ortopedi; traumatology; orthopaedics; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor is a 11.7 kDa acid stable serine protease inhibitor. SLPI has been shown to be the dominant protease inhibitor in bronchial secretions and has been used in treatment of pulmonary emphysema. READ MORE

  3. 3. OVULATION: Intra-ovarian mechanisms

    Author : Farnosh Sørensen Zakerkish; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ovulation; Human;

    Abstract : Background: Ovulation is the central biological process involved in the menstrual cycle of women. Specifically, ovulation involves the tissue remodelling of the preovulatory follicle to achieve the rupture of the exterior follicle wall with the extrusion of the oocyte. READ MORE

  4. 4. Serine protease inhibitors in the upper and lower airways

    Author : Camilla Hollander; Enheten för kroniska inflammatoriska och degenerativa sjukdomar; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; auditive system and speech; Neutrophils; audiology; Otorhinolaryngology; Medicin människa och djur ; AAT; Medicine human and vertebrates ; SLPI; cytokines chemokines; anti-proteases; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen; Airway inflammation; Otorinolaryngologi;

    Abstract : Proteases and their inhibitors are implicated in the physiology and pathology of the airways. Protease inhibitors include those produced locally, such as secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI), and those produced mainly by the liver that can reach the airways via passive diffusion, such as alpha1-antitrypsin (AAT). 5. 5. The Role of Matrix Metalloproteinases in Leukocyte Transmigration in Murine Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis

    Author : Smriti Agrawal; Tumörmikromiljö; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; mouse; Multiple Sclerosis; Blood-brain barrier; MMP; Dystroglycan; EAE; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Abstract : Murine experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) is a commonly used model in the investigation of the human disease multiple sclerosis (MS), a debilitating inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS). MS and EAE involve multiple steps, primarily, auto-antigenic leukocyte (mainly T-cells and macrophages) crossing the blood-brain barrier and later their invasion into the CNS where they degrade myelin basic protein, eventually resulting in axonal degradation and CNS inflammation.
