  1. 1. Short-term effects of ambient temperature on daily deaths and hospital admissions

    Author : Joacim Rocklöv; Bertil Forsberg; Jan Semenza; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; temperature; humidity; weather; climate; climate change; hot; heat; cold; cold spell; cold wave; heat wave; health; hospitalization; hospital admission; death; mortality; morbidity; epidemiology; environmental epidemiology; time series; Public health medicine research areas; Folkhälsomedicinska forskningsområden; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Abstract : Background: Incidence of death and hospitalizations have been observed to depend on short-term changes in weather and to increase with extreme temperatures. This thesis aims to strengthen the scientific knowledge on the relationship between temperature and daily deaths, but also the relationship between temperature and daily hospital admissions. 2. 2. Moisture-induced stress and distortion of wood : A numerical and experimental study of wood's drying and long-term behaviour

    Author : Sara Florisson; Sigurdur Ormarsson; Johan Vessby; Kent Persson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; analytical method; calibration; controlled climate; creep; distortion; experimental methodology; FEM; fibre orientation; mechano-sorption; moisture transport; natural climate; Norway spruce; numerical model; three-dimensional; timber beam; validation; wood; Byggteknik; Civil engineering; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Abstract : With the current advances made in three-dimensional modelling of wood, it is possible to provide an overall picture of moisture flow, and moisture-induced stress and deformations, whereas previously, experiments only provided local measurements. The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the possibilities of the developed three-dimensional numerical model to predict the behaviour of wood when simultaneously exposed to a mechanical load and a particular climate. 3. 3. Non-linear behavior of bio-based composite : characterization and modeling

    Author : Liva Rozite; Markus Stommel; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polymera konstruktionsmaterial; Polymeric Composite Materials;

    Abstract : The development and application of bio-based composite materials have been frequently studied. Most of the work is done on quasi-static performance of these materials. However, these composites are highly non-linear therefore there is need for investigation of their viscelastic and viscoplastic behavior. READ MORE

  4. 4. Friction in threaded fasteners : Influence of materials and tooling

    Author : Mayank Kumar; Sergei Glavatskih; Erik Persson; Ellen Bergseth; Ian Sherrington; Robert Wood; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Friction; Coating; Surface topography; Tightening speed; Additive manufacturing; Tightening condition; Assembly tool; Material; Friktion; Ytbehandling; Yttopografi; Åtdragningshastighet; Additiv tillverkning; Åtdragningsförhållanden; Monteringsverktyg; Material; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract : Threaded fasteners represent the most common type of machine element, with a unique function that facilitates ease of assembly and disassembly. This ease of disassembly allows machine parts to be reused, refurbished, and recycled. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modern inhalation agents and effects of anaesthesia equipment during low-flow anaesthesia

    Author : Anders Johansson; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anestesiologi; intensive care; intensivvård; Anaesthesiology; humidity and temperature; heat and moisture exchanger; isoflurane; desflurane; sevoflurane; anaesthetics volatile; carbon dioxide absorber; Low-flow; re-breathing circle circuit;

    Abstract : Volatile agents are economically and ecologically acceptable only when administered via low-flow systems. However, sevoflurane degrades during low-flow anaesthesia to compound A, and a high carbon dioxide absorber temperature increases this degradation. READ MORE
