1. Hydrophobic interactions of serpins
Abstract : The proteins of the serpin family are primarily but not exclusively proteinase inhibitors, which share a common, similar structure. It is known that this structure undergoes major conformational changes upon cleavage in the serpin reactive site loop, and that these changes include rearrangements within the hydrophobic core of the molecule. 2. Intra- and intermolecular interactions in proteins : Studies of marginally hydrophobic transmembrane alpha-helices and protein-protein interactions
Abstract : Most of the processes in a living cell are carried out by proteins. Depending on the needs of the cell, different proteins will interact and form the molecular machines demanded for the moment. READ MORE

3. DNA strand exchange and hydrophobic interactions between biomolecules
Abstract : The role of hydrophobic interactions in DNA strand exchange has been studied using fluorescence-labeled DNA oligomers in a FRET assay. Strand exchange was found to be accelerated in the presence of polyethylene glycol, which provides a crowded and hydrophobic environment possibly mimicking that of the catalytically active recombinase-DNA complexes. 4. Surface interactions and adsorbate structures : An atomic force microscopy study
Abstract : Atomic force microscopy, AFM, was used for studying somecurrent topics in the field of surface and colloid science. Themain topics addressed in this thesis were: the nature of thelong-range attraction between hydrophobic surfaces; slidingfriction behavior for microscopic contacts; and interfacialstructuring of polyelectrolyte-nanoparticle multilayerfilms. 5. Secondary Interactions in Symmetric Double Bond Formation Catalysed by Molecular Ruthenium Complexes
Abstract : Chemistry has a tremendous impact on everyone’s life, although society does not always realize its power and ubiquity. In recent years, improved economy and sustainability of chemical processes has become a worldwide priority. READ MORE
