  1. 1. Food hypersensitivity among schoolchildren : prevalence, Health Related Quality of Life and experiences of double-blind placebo-controlled food challenges

    Author : Åsa Strinnholm; Rönmark Eva; Viveca Lindh; Linnéa Hedman; Inger Kull; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epidemiology; food-induced symptoms; food-reintroduction; interview;

    Abstract : Background: The prevalence of reported food hypersensitivity among children has increased in Western countries. However, the prevalence varies largely due to differences in methods used in different studies. Double-blind placebo-controlled food challenge (DBPCFC) is the most reliable method to verify or exclude food hypersensitivity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Epidemiology of food hypersensitivity in school children : validation with double-blind placebo-controlled food challenges and biomarkers

    Author : Anna Winberg; Christina West; Eva Rönmark; Sibylle Koletzko; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; food hypersensitivity; schoolchildren; epidemiology; food challenges; biomarkers;

    Abstract : Background: This thesis focuses on the incidence and remission of reported food hypersensitivity in schoolchildren followed from 8 to 12 -years of age and the prevalence of hypersensitivity to milk, egg, cod and wheat among 12-year olds investigated by reported data, clinical investigation and double-blind placebo-controlled food challenges and biomarkers.Methods: The studies are mainly based on a population based cohort recruited in 2006 from three municipalities in Northern Sweden. 3. 3. Aspects of pertussis, pertussis vaccination and adverse events associated with aluminum adsorbed vaccines

    Author : Elisabet Bergfors; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Pertussis; parapertussis; pertussis toxoid; vaccine; vaccination; vaccine trial; adjuvant; aluminium; adsorbed vaccines; adverse event; pruritic nodules; itching nodules; granuloma; sensitisation; hypersensitivity; contact allergy;

    Abstract : The thesis originates in a clinical study of one of the new acellular pertussis vaccines performed in Göteborg in the 1990s. The monocomponent vaccine, pertussis toxoid adsorbed to aluminium hydroxide, had previously been shown to have an efficacy of 71%. READ MORE

  4. 4. Molecular mechanisms and complete antigen formation in allergic contact dermatitis

    Author : Stefan Ahlfors; Lund Dermatologi och venereologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hypersensitivity; adduct; immune response.; Allergy; hapten;

    Abstract : Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a common T cell mediated skin disease. Small reactive organic molecules called haptens induce ACD. Haptens are not recognized by themselves, but need to bond to endogenous proteins in the skin, and processed further into complete antigens. Antigen specific T cells then recognize the resulting antigen. READ MORE
