  1. 1. Temporomandibular joint disk displacement and subsequent adverse mandibular growth : a radiographic, histologic and biomolecular experimental study

    Author : Fredrik Bryndahl; Annika Isberg; Lars Eriksson; Lars G Hollender; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adolescence; adverse growth; condylar cartilage; subchondral bone; TMJ; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Abstract : The mandibular condyles represent important growth sites within the facial skeleton. Condylar growth is not a pacemaker of mandibular development, but it provides regional adaptive growth that is of considerable clinical significance, as the condyle’s upward and backward growth movement regulates the anteriorly and inferiorly directed displacement of the mandible as a whole. 2. 2. The Temporomandibular Joint in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis : Psychosocial, clinical, imaging and parotid saliva biomarkers

    Author : Alexandra Dimitrijevic Carlsson; Per Alstergren; Kerstin Wahlund; Carin Starkhammar Johansson; Martina. Frodlund; Bijar Ghafouri; Robin Kahn; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomarkers; Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis; Magnetic resonance imaging; Orofacial pain; Parotid gland; Plasma; Psychological distress; Psychosocial; Saliva; Stress; Temporomandibular joint; Biomarkörer; Juvenil idiopatisk artrit; Käkled; Magnetisk resonanstomografi; Orofacial smärta; Saliv; Spottkörtel; Stress;

    Abstract : Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common rheumatic disease in children. The disease can affect the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and cause orofacial growth disturbances, pain, and jaw dysfunction. TMJ arthritis is often asymptomatic and therefore a challenging joint to diagnose. READ MORE

  3. 3. Temporomandibular joint imaging using cone-beam computed tomography

    Author : Durer Iskanderani; Reinhilde Jacobs; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is one of the most revolutionary innovations in dentistry, and was introduced into the dental field two decades ago as a three-dimensional (3D) imaging modality. Since then, it has gained general clinical acceptance, and is widespread among many dental specialties. READ MORE

  4. 4. Orofacial aspects of juvenile idiopathic arthritis in children

    Author : Malin Collin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Aims: This thesis, which investigates orofacial aspects and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) involvement in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), aims to improve knowledge about the variables to include in a clinical examination, radiographic imaging techniques, and whether saliva can be used as a medium for disease monitoring. Material and methods: In a prospective longitudinal study comprising 59 children diagnosed with JIA, clinical and radiological data were collected. READ MORE

  5. 5. Magnetic resonance imaging in patients with temporomandibular disorders and pain

    Author : Napat Limchaichana; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the method of choice for imaging disorders of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and pain. But the method is expensive, and wait times for MRI exams of the TMJ are long. READ MORE
