  1. 1. Identification of Arthritis Susceptibility Genes in Mice and Humans

    Author : Emma Ahlqvist; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunologi; transplantation; serology; Immunology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; QTL; Biomedical sciences; Rheumatoid arthritis; Collagen-induced arthritis; serologi; Skeleton; muscle system; rheumatology locomotion; Skelett; muskelsystem; reumatologi; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease with a largely unknown aetiology. The risk of developing RA is partly dependent on genetic factors, which has motivated extensive efforts to identify the disease regulating genes as away to understand disease pathogenesis. READ MORE

  2. 2. Breast-feeding, nasopharyngeal colonization and otitis media

    Author : Gustaf Aniansson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cleft palate.; URI; SOM; AOM; otitis media; H. influenzae; S. pneumoniae; Breast-feeding; nasopharyngeal colonization; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : This thesis analyzed the relationship between breastfeeding, nasopharyngeal colonization and acute otitis media (AOM) in children. Nasopharyngeal cultures were collected from 400 children and milk samples from their mothers in connection with the scheduled visits to well baby clinics at 1-3, 4-7 and 8-12 months of age, and episodes of AOM and URI were documented. 3. 3. Studies of penta-decameric binding proteins: AP-4 and CBF-A

    Author : Alaitz Aranburu; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; transplantation; Metabolism; serologi; metabolism; Biokemi; serology; Immunology; hnRNP H; NPM; CBF-A; AP-4; transcription; B cells; immunoglobulin; Immunologi;

    Abstract : Each immunoglobulin (Ig) V gene segment contains an upstream promoter region. The octamer element and the TATA box are the only elements that are conserved in all Ig promoters. The presence of the octamer element is necessary, but not sufficient to support high levels of transcription. READ MORE

  4. 4. B cell activation in vitro: thymus-dependent immune responses and bacterial cell surface proteins

    Author : Karol Axcrona; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nuclear transport; bacterial Ig-binding proteins; CD40L promoter; CD21; Ig; B lymphocyte activation in vitro; CD40; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis aspects of peripheral B lymphocyte differentiation were studied. Through in vitro experiments, B lymphocyte activation was assessed. B lymphocytes express immunoglobulin (Ig) specific for a certain antigen on the cell surface, and when surface Ig is crosslinked by an antigen, the cell is activated. READ MORE

  5. 5. The importance of major histocompatibility complex class II genes for the development of autoimmune inflammation

    Author : Ulrica Brunsberg; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; serology; Immunology; Mhc polymorphism arthritis evolution; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis the role of major histocompatibility complex (Mhc) class II molecules in development of autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), was studied. By combining an experimental model for RA, collagen type II induced arthritis (CIA), with molecular biology methods the importance of polymorphism in Mhc class II genes for disease development was investigated.
