  1. 11. Aspects of aqueous humor dynamics : Studies in vivo and in vitro

    Author : Maria Samuelsson-Almén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; Aqneous humor flow; intraocular pressure; adenylate cyclase; nonpigmented ciliary epithelium; pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide; vasoactive intestinal polypeptide; dopamine; prostaglandin; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : The purpose of the present investigation was to study the effects of PGF2α-l-isopropylester, some neuropeptides, and pharmacological agents on aqueous humor dynamics and intraocular pressure (IOP) in vivo and on adenylate cyclase activity in the nonpigmented ciliary epithelium (NPE) in vitro.Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) caused a dose-dependent increase in cAMP formation, indicating that the NPE contains receptors for PACAP and VIP coupled to adenylate cyclase activation. 2. 12. Chemokines and bone : lessons from in vitro and in vivo studies

    Author : Sara Rosendahl; Pernilla Lundberg; Cecilia Koskinen Holm; Elin Kindstedt; Marie Lagerquist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Bone homeostasis is maintained by the balanced activity of bone-forming osteoblasts and bone-resorbing osteoclasts. Inflammation in the vicinity of bone disturbs the balanced bone remodeling process, which often results in bone loss. READ MORE

  4. 14. Radioimmunotherapy in Experimental Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma : Tumour-targeting in vitro and in vivo

    Author : Junping Cheng; Matti Anniko; Mats Engström; Vladimir Tolmachev; Torgny Stigbrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; squamous cell carcinoma; radioimmunotherapy; cell line; tumour targeting; radionuclide; nude mice; Otorhinolaryngologi; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi;

    Abstract : Radioimmunotherapy (RIT) has been shown to be a practicable way to treat head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. A specific antibody recognizes the charasteristic structure of tumour cells when loaded with cytotoxic agents (toxins, drugs, radionuclides, etc). READ MORE

  5. 15. Studies of Eosinophil Cationic Protein (ECP) in vivo and in vitro : Impact of Genetic and Posttranslational Modifications

    Author : Jenny Eriksson; Per Venge; Agneta Trulson; Ester Boix; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biomedicine; Eosinophil granulocyte; granular protein; ECP; gene polymorphism; cytotoxicity; SELDI-TOF MS; glycosylation; molecular and functional heterogeneity; fibrosis; Biomedicin;

    Abstract : Eosinophil granulocytes are tissue dwelling leukocytes that are implicated in host defence, particularly against helminthic parasites; they also participate in most inflammatory disorders. Although eosinophils have important roles in host defence mechanisms, their actions can also be harmful to the host as in the allergic inflammation where lung epithelium is destructed due to the release of toxic granule proteins.
