    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Spherical graphite iron; component casting; high silicon ductile iron; digital image correlation DIC ; in-situ tensile testing; in-situ cyclic testing; DIC pattern generation; pit etching; micro-scale deformation; micro-crack; finite element analysis FEA ; focused ion beam FIB milling; segjärn; komponentgjutning; högkisellegerat segjärn; digital image correlation DIC ; insitu dragprovning; in-situ cyklisk provning; DIC-mönstergenerering; grop-etsning; mikroskalig deformation; mikrosprickor; finite element analys FEA ; fokuserad jonstråle FIB avverkning;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the effect of microstructural variation on the mechanical properties and deformation behavior of ductile iron. To research and determine these effects, two grades of ductile iron, (i) GJS-500-7 and (ii) high silicon GJS-500-14, were cast in a geometry containing several plates with different section thicknesses in order to produce microstructural variation. 2. 2. In-situ assessment of timber structures - Assessment methods and case studies

    Author : Thomas Lechner; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; non-destructive testing NDT ; historical structures; density; In-situ assessment; timber structures; mechanical properties; assessment methods; X-ray;

    Abstract : In the assessment of timber structures, diagnostic investigations with reference to the condition and structural performance of these structures are necessary and often require appropriate health monitoring techniques. This thesis covers four aspects within the research area of the in-situ assessment of timber structures based on scientific knowledge and guidelines to perform assessment of existing timber structures:IDetermination of density of wood with portable X-rayThe mechanical performance of timber is often strongly related to the density of wood. 3. 3. Development of Structural Steels for Powder Bed Fusion - Laser Beam

    Author : William Hearn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tensile properties; in situ tempering; process development; martensite; additive manufacturing; cold cracking; low-alloy steel; structural steel; powder bed fusion – laser beam; carbon steel;

    Abstract : Over the past decade, powder bed fusion – laser beam (PBF-LB) has attracted noticeable attention from both academia and industry. However, there remains a scarcity of approved material for the process, as fewer than 40 alloys are commercially available. READ MORE

  4. 4. On multiscale modeling of pearlitic steel

    Author : Erik Lindfeldt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cementite; crystal plasticity; Pearlite; multiscale modeling; computational homogenization; digital image correlation; ferrite; in-situ SEM;

    Abstract : By studying pearlitic steels using a scanning electron microscope it can be observed that pearlite is a two-phase material with cementite lamellae embedded in a matrix of ferrite. The cementite is commonly described as being stiff and brittle in comparison to the ferrite which is considered to have a soft and ductile mechanical behavior. READ MORE

  5. 5. Tensile fracture of ice : test methods and fracture mechanics analysis

    Author : Lars Stehn; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with several aspects of fracture of both brackish (low salinity) sea ice and freshwater ice. The tests and analyses are confined to tensile, or in fracture mechanics language, Mode I, fracture. READ MORE
