  1. 1. Myc-induced Lymphomagenesis : In vivo assessment of downstream pathways

    Author : Sara Rimpi; Jonas Nilsson; Juha Klefström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Myc; lymphomagenesis; Aurora kinases; polyamine; glycolysis; targeting; mouse models of cancer; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Myc oncogenes encode transcription factors that bind to E-box sequences in DNA, driving the expression of a large number of target genes and are deregulated in approximately 70% of human cancers. Deregulated Myc expression cause enhanced proliferation (which is counteracted by apoptosis), angiogenesis and cancer. READ MORE

  2. 2. Lead(II) as a Tool for Probing RNA Structure in vivo

    Author : Magnus Lindell; Gerhart Wagner; Roland Hartmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; lead II cleavage; RNA structure; in vivo probing; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Chemical modification and limited enzymatic hydrolysis are powerful methods to obtain detailed information on the structure and dynamics of RNAs in solution. In the work presented here I have taken advantage of the properties of the divalent metal ion lead(II) to establish it as a new probe for investigating the structure of RNA in vivo. READ MORE

  3. 3. Lipid peroxidation in vivo : Evaluation and application of methods for measurement

    Author : Eva Södergren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; lipid peroxidation; hydroperoxides; F2-isoprostanes; MDA; prostaglandins; measurement; carbon tetrachloride; vitamin E; dietary fat quality; rapeseed oil; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Abstract : Lipid peroxidation is thought to be an important factor in the pathophysiology of a number of diseases and in the process of ageing, but its measurement in vivo has been difficult. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate methods for measurement of lipid peroxidation in vivo that are suitable for clinical investigations, and to apply these methods in animal and human studies investigating basal conditions and situations associated with increased lipid peroxidation. 5. 5. Radiolabelled Oligonucleotides for Evaluation of in vivo Hybridisation Utilising PET Methodology

    Author : Gábor Lendvai; Mats Bergström; Sergio Estrada; Barbro Eriksson; Raymond Josephsson; Bertrand Tavitian; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular medicine; Gene expression; Antisense oligonucleotides; Positron emission tomography; In vivo hybridisation; In vivo biodistribution; Chromogranin-A; 68Ga; RT-PCR; Scavenger receptors; Molekylärmedicin;

    Abstract : Antisense oligonucleotides (ODN) may interfere in gene expression on the basis of hybridising to its complementary messenger RNA (mRNA) sequence in the cell thereby preventing the synthesis of the peptide. Therefore, these ODNs may be potential drugs to treat human diseases by “knocking down” the expression of responsible genes or correcting the maturation process of mRNA in the field called antisense therapy.
