  1. 1. Optimization-based robot grasp synthesis and motion control

    Author : Robert Krug; Achim Lilienthal; Dimitar Dimitrov; Sami Haddadin; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Robot grasping; grasp synthesis; grasp planning; motion control; model predictive control; independent contact regions; obstacle avoidance; motion planning; Datavetenskap; Computer Science;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the questions of where to grasp and how to grasp a given object with an articulated robotic grasping device. To this end, aspects of grasp synthesis and hand motion planning and control are investigated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Numerical simulation of thermomechanical rolling contact using an arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian formulation

    Author : Andreas Draganis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; rolling contact; finite element method; thermomechanical analysis; arbitrary Lagrangian--Eulerian;

    Abstract : In the endeavour to further the understanding of thermomechanical rolling contact, numerical simulations serve as an important complement to laboratory and full-scale testing. In the development of numerical simulation methods, the challenge is to enhance predictive capabilities while keeping computational efforts reasonable. READ MORE

  3. 3. Frictional Effects on Hertzian Contact and Fracture

    Author : Denis Jelagin; Per-Lennart Larsson; Bertil Storåkers; David Hills; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Contact mechanics; Elastic material; Friction; Nanoindentation; Fracture; Solid mechanics; Fastkroppsmekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses normal axisymmetric contact of dissimilar elastic solids at finite interfacial friction. It is shown that in the case of smooth and convex but otherwise arbitrary contact profiles and monotonically increasing loading a single stick-slip contour evolves being independent of loading and profile geometry. 4. 4. Numerical simulation of non-Newtonian fluids flow over surfaces

    Author : Kazem Bazesefidpar; Outi Tammisola; Luca Brandt; Shahriar Afkhami; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dynamic wetting; viscoelasticity; non-Newtonian fluids; contact- angle hysteresis; droplet spreading; self-propelled jumping; dynamisk vätning; viskoelasticitet; icke-Newtonska vätskor; kontaktlinjehysteres; dropparnas spridning på ytor; spontan hoppning av droppar från ytor; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : Wetting of surfaces by droplets of non-Newtonian fluids is important for various industrial and natural processes such as coating and cleaning of surfaces and inkjet printing, to name a few. Viscoelastic fluids are compounds of a very small amount of polymers and solvent. READ MORE

  5. 5. Towards Model-Based Condition Monitoring of Railway Switches and Crossings

    Author : Marko Milosevic; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sleeper void; Switches crossings; condition indicators; embedded sleeper accelerometer; multi-body simulations; dynamic vehicle–track interaction; MBS; S C; wheel–rail contact forces; condition monitoring; crossing rail geometry; displacement reconstruction.; model calibration;

    Abstract : Railway switches and crossings (S&C, turnouts) connect different track sections and create a railway network by allowing for trains to change between tracks. This functionality comes at a cost as the load-inducing rail discontinuities in the switch and crossing panels cause much higher degradation rates for S&C compared to regular plain line track.
