1. Superabsorbent Polymers from the Cell Wall of Zygomycetes Fungi
Abstract : The present thesis presents new renewable, antimicrobial and biodegradable superabsorbent polymers (SAPs), produced from the cell wall of zygomycetes fungi. The cell wall was characterized and chitosan, being one of the most important ingredients, was extracted, purified, and converted to SAP for use in disposable personal care products designed for absorption of different body fluids. 2. Nanoplasmonic Biosensors compatible with Artificial Cell Membranes
Abstract : Within life science, there is currently an intense search for novel techniques that enable efficient and reliable analysis of biomolecular interactions. Such methods have future applications within medical diagnostics and drug development, as well as within proteomic research in general. READ MORE

3. Weighted Analysis of Microarray Experiments
Abstract : DNA microarrays are strikingly efficient tools for analysing gene expression for large sets of genes simultaneously. The aim is often to identify genes which are differentially expressed between some studied conditions, thereby gaining insight into which cellular mechanisms are differently active between the conditions. 4. Assessment of microvascular and metabolic responses in the skin
Abstract : The general aim of this project was to develop experimental in vivo models that allow for minimally invasive investigations of responses in the skin to microvascular and metabolic provocations. The cutaneous microvasculature has emerged as a valuable model and been proposed to mirror the microcirculation in other organs. READ MORE

5. Antibacterial Surfaces for Biomedical Applications
Abstract : Medical devices such as orthopedic implants are intended to serve for improved quality of life. However, clinical success cannot be taken for granted and the most common reason for failure is due to biomaterials associated infection (BAI). READ MORE
