  1. 1. Early growth, retinopathy of prematurity and insulin-like growth factors in preterm infants

    Author : Eva Engström; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Preterm; ROP; nutrition; growth; growth restriction; IGF-I; IGF-II; IGFBP-3;

    Abstract : Aims:Paper I: To perform measurements of the lower leg length (LLL) in preterm infants, compare and evaluate handling error and precision of two instruments, and estimate the time required to show growth.Paper II-IV: To investigate whether low postnatal levels of serum IGF-I are associated with abnormal retinal vessel development. 2. 2. Liver regeneration : With reference to malnutrition and growth factors

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköpings universitet

    Author : Stefan Skullman; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [1993]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cholecystokinin; energy substrates; epidermal growth factor; insulin-like growth factor I; liver composition; liver regeneration; malnutrition; pancreaticobiliary diversion; protein synthesis; rat; transfonning growth factor alpha; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The liver has a unique capacity to regenerate after damage, irrespective of cause. The regulatory mechanisms of this regeneration are not fully known. Liver regeneration· is associated with rapid growth and thereby increased demands for energy and synthesis of new compounds. READ MORE

  3. 3. Insulin-like growth factor-I in the domestic cat

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköpings universitet

    Author : Emma Strage; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet.; [2015]
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) has growth promoting effects as well as insulin-like actions on metabolism. IGF-I associates with a family of six high affinity IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs) and these interfere in immunoassays for IGF-I. READ MORE

  4. 4. Bone Metabolism in Men

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Peter Gillberg; Uppsala universitet.; [2001]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical sciences; Male osteoporosis; Bone mineral density; Growth hormone; Insulin-like growth factors; Sex hormones; Growth hormone replacement; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the importance of the growth hormone (GH)/insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system and sex steroids for male bone metabolism has been investigated, and the effects of continuous low dose GH replacement in GH deficient (GHD) adults. In a population-based sample of men, positive correlations were found between bone mineral density (BMD) and IGF-I, IGF-II, IGF binding protein (IGFBP)-3 and the testosterone/sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) ratio. 5. 5. Identification of novel growth hormone-regulated factors

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Björn Andersson; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2009]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone; idiopathic short stature; growth hormone deficient; prepubertal; children; genomic; proteomic;

    Abstract : The studies described in this thesis aimed to identify novel factors involved in the regulation of longitudinal growth and bone mineralization in response to growth hormone (GH) treatment. This was done by performing a single factor study (Paper I) where it was found that growth response was negatively correlated with adiponectin levels during the first year of GH treatment in short prepubertal children.
