  1. 1. Period integrals and other direct images of D-modules

    Author : Ketil Tveiten; Rikard Bøgvad; Uli Walther; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; D-modules; Rings of differential operators; Period integrals; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of three papers, each touching on a different aspect of the theory of rings of differential operators and D-modules. In particular, an aim is to provide and make explicit good examples of D-module directimages, which are all but absent in the existing literature. READ MORE

    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ordinary differential equations; parameter estimation; planar Hamiltonian systems; bifurcation theory; Abelian integrals; limit cycles; normal forms; hyperbolic fixed points; numerical integration; invariant manifolds; interval analysis. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification. 34A60; 34C07; 34C20; 37D10; 37G15; 37M20; 37M99; 65G20; 65L09; 65L70.; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : This PhD thesis consists of a summary and seven papers, where various applications of auto-validated computations are studied. In the first paper we describe a rigorous method to determine unknown parameters in a system of ordinary differential equations from measured data with known bounds on the noise of the measurements. 4. 4. The Klimontovich description of complex plasma systems : Low frequency electrostatic modes, spectral densities of fluctuations and collision integrals

    Author : Panagiotis Tolias; Lars Blomberg; Carmine Castaldo; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; complex plasmas; dusty plasmas; Klimontovich equations; kinetic theory; dust acoustic waves; collision integrals;

    Abstract : Plasmas seeded with solid particulates of nanometer to micron sizes (complex plasma systems) are a ubiquitous feature of intergalactic, interstellar and planetary environments but also of plasma processing applications or even fusion devices. Their novel aspects compared with ideal multi-component plasmas stem from (i) the large number of elementary charges residing on the grain surface, (ii) the variability of the charge over mass ratio of the dust component, (iii) the inherent openness and dissipative nature of such systems.
