  1. 1. The Role of Impaired Interatrial Conduction in Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation

    Author : Pyotr Platonov; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electrophysiology; Cardiovascular system; anatomy; interatrial conduction; lone atrial fibrillation; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the role of interatrial conduction defects in the genesis of lone paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) using combined approach of non-invasive signal-averaged P-wave ECG, invasive electrophysiological (EP) studies, anatomical studies and animal experiments. Non-filtered signal-averaged P-wave ECG revealed irregularities in orthogonal P-wave morphology and the presence of double-peaked configurations of P-wave spatial magnitude in patients with lone paroxysmal AF compared with healthy individuals (I), suggesting the presence of interatrial conduction delays localised in the posterior-inferior interatrial route. 2. 2. Observations of Interatrial Conduction in Healthy Individuals Using Signal-averaged P-wave ECG: A Clinical Perspective

    Author : Rasmus Havmöller; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; signal-averaged; interatrial conduction; orthogonal; P-wave; ECG; healthy;

    Abstract : Disturbances of interatrial conduction are linked to supraventricular arrhythmias. Previous studies have shown that these disturbances can be detected non-invasively as distinctive appearances of the orthogonal P wave using signal-averaged P-wave analysis (PSAECG). READ MORE

  3. 3. Conduction Disturbances in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation

    Author : Eva Hertervig; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Pulmonary Vein Potentials; Atrial Fibrillation; Conduction Disturbances;

    Abstract : Background: The electrophysiological mechanisms underlying atrial fibrillation (AF) are incompletely understood. Experimental studies have shown that remodelling of the atrial myocardium is linked to the occurrence and perpetuation of AF. READ MORE

  4. 4. Characterisation of Atrial Electrophysiology with respect to Atrial Fibrillation - A Non-Invasive Approach

    Author : Fredrik Holmqvist; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Electrocardiography; Atrial fibrillation; Human; Conduction; Signal; Spectral analysis; P wave morphology; Atrial remodelling; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common form of cardiac arrhythmia encountered in clinical practice, accounting. Recent findings highlight the need for better characterisation of the arrhythmia in each patient, in order to improve patient treatment. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sudden infant death syndrome : a medico-legal study of related cardiovascular, toxicological and genetic findings

    Author : Petra Råsten Almqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Cardiovascular malformation; Cotinine; Heart weight; mtDNA; Myocarditis; Nicotine; SIDS;

    Abstract : The present medico-legal investigation of the deaths of infants less than one year of age was designed to enhance our understanding of the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Special emphasis was placed on the significance of cardiovascular pathology (including heart weight, malformations and myocarditis); exposure to nicotine; and mutations and/or polymorphisms in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA).
