    Author : Anita Kullen; KTH; []
    Keywords : polar arc; transpolar arc; interplanetary magnetic field; solar wind-magnetosphere coupling;

    Abstract : .... READ MORE

  2. 2. There and back again... An Earth magneto-tale : understanding plasma flows in the magnetotail

    Author : Alexandre De Spiegeleer; Maria Hamrin; Herbert Gunell; Timo Pitkänen; Colin Forsyth; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasma dynamics; Earth magnetosphere; magnetotail; plasma sheet flows; oscillatory flows; burst bulk flows; tailward flows; rymdfysik; Space Physics; rymd- och plasmafysik; Space and Plasma Physics;

    Abstract : On average, the Earth's magnetotail plasma sheet seems to be a calm region of the magnetosphere where the plasma moves slowly towards Earth. However, the plasma sheet actually hosts many phenomena, some of which can affect Earth. READ MORE

  3. 3. The solar wind protons inside the induced magnetosphere of Mars

    Author : Catherine Dieval; Maria Hamrin; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rymdteknik; Space Technology;

    Abstract : Mars is an unmagnetized planet. Mars has no intrinsic magnetic field but has local magnetic anomalies in the crust. The solar wind, which is the plasma flowing from the Sun at supersonic speed, interacts with the magnetic fields of the currents induced in the conductive Martian ionosphere, deviates and slows down to subsonic speeds. 4. 4. O+ outflow during geomagnetic storms observed by Cluster satellites

    Author : Audrey Schillings; Hans Nilsson; Stephan Buchert; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atmosfärsvetenskap; Atmospheric Science;

    Abstract : The region of space dominated by the Sun's magnetic field is called the heliosphere. It envelops the entire solar system including Earth. Therefore, a strong coupling exists between the Sun and our planet. READ MORE

  5. 5. Space Weather - Solar magnetic variation and its impact on Earth's atmosphere

    Author : Fredrik Boberg; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; klimatologi; kartografi; pedology; Physical geography; marklära; geomorphology; climatology; cartography; space weather - solar magnetism - solar wind - geomagnetic activity- North Atlantic Oscillation - climate change - neural networks- wavelet analysis; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; Astronomy; space research; cosmic chemistry; Astronomi; rymdvetenskap; kosmisk kemi; Fysicumarkivet A:2003:Boberg;

    Abstract : A solar magnetic field is continuously being created in the solar interior. As the field evolves outward through the solar atmosphere and into the enveloping heliosphere, it causes effects on a wide range of temporal and spatial scales. READ MORE
