  1. 1. Parasite on Crayfish : Characterisation of Their Pathogenesis, Host Interactions and Diversity

    Author : Eakaphun Bangyeekhun; Anders Tunlid; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoophysiology; Crayfish; Parasite; Oomycete; Prophenoloxidase; Peroxinectin; Aphanomyces astaci; Psorospermium haecheli; White spot syndrome virus; Zoofysiologi; Animal physiology; Zoofysiologi; biologisk beroendeforskning; Biological Research on Drug Dependence;

    Abstract : The crayfish plague refractory crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, which can harbour the fungal parasite within melanotic sheath, are found to constitutively express the gene encoding for prophenoloxidase (proPO) after mimicking parasite attack. In contrast, the susceptible crayfish, Astacus astacus, responds to the parasite by increased levels of proPO transcript, particularly in the semigranular haemocytes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Host-parasite interactions in the dissemination of Toxoplasma gondii

    Author : Sachie Kanatani; Antonio Barragan; Per Uhlén; Isabelle Tardieux; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Apicomplexa; dendritic cells; microglia; cell migration; 14-3-3 proteins; GABAergic signaling; voltage-dependent calcium channel; host-parasite interaction; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that infects virtually all warm-blooded organisms. Systemic dissemination of T. gondii in the organism can cause life-threatening infection that manifests as Toxoplasma encephalitis in immune-compromised patients. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modulation of mononuclear phagocyte function in the dissemination of Toxoplasma gondii

    Author : Arne L. ten Hoeve; Antonio Barragan; Nicolas Blanchard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Apicomplexa; dendritic cell; macrophage; intracellular signaling; parasite-derived effector protein; chemotaxis; leukocyte migration; transcription factor; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular Apicomplexan parasite that could possibly infect all warm-blooded animals. Acute infections with T. READ MORE

  4. 4. Genetic factors influencing susceptibility to intracellular infections

    Author : Fabio Sánchez; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Genetic susceptibility; leprosy; leishmaniasis; HIV; quantitative trait locus; linkage analysis; multigenic; severity.;

    Abstract : Genetics of susceptibility to infection is a complex trait in which many factors from the host, the parasite and the environment, interact to produce different clinical manifestations of disease. This thesis explores the relationship between the first infectious susceptibility gene ever cloned, SLC11A1 and the occurrence of intracellular infections (leprosy, leishmaniasis and HIV infection) in several populations of humans. 5. 5. Mechanisms of the intracellular survival of Francisella tularensis

    Author : Linda Tancred; Anders Sjöstedt; Jean Celli; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Francisella tularensis; Igl; MglA; J774; IFN-γ; RNS; ROS; phagosome; Clinical bacteriology; Klinisk bakteriologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : Francisella tularensis is a gram-negative, highly virulent, intracellular bacterium which causes the zoonotic disease tularemia. The subspecies tularensis and holarctica are clinically important, and the former is the more virulent. The intracellular lifestyle of F. READ MORE
