  1. 1. Applications of Gaussian Noise Stability in Inapproximability and Social Choice Theory

    Author : Marcus Isaksson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gaussian noise stability; inapproximability theory; invariance principle; max-q-cut; condorcet voting; max-q-cut;

    Abstract : Gaussian isoperimetric results have recently played an important role in proving fundamental results in hardness of approximation in computer science and in the study of voting schemes in social choice theory. In this thesis we prove a generalization of a Gaussian isoperimetric result by Borell and show that it implies that the majority function is optimal in Condorcet voting in the sense that it maximizes the probability that there is a single candidate which the society prefers over all other candidates. Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers, all concerning random iteration of isometries. The papers are:I. Ambroladze A, Ådahl M, Random iteration of isometries in unbounded metric spaces. Nonlinearity 16 (2003) 1107-1117. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fundamental Limitations of Distributed Feedback Control in Large-Scale Networks

    Author : Emma Tegling; Henrik Sandberg; Ali Jadbabaie; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Distributed control; Large-scale systems; networked control; decentralized control; fundamental limitations; networked systems; frequency control; smart grid; consensus; spatial invariance; power system dynamics; microgrids; vehicular formation systems; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Networked systems accomplish global behaviors through local feedback interactions. The purpose of a distributed control design is to select interaction rules and control protocols that achieve desired global control objectives. READ MORE

  4. 4. Stability of power systems with large amounts of distributed generation

    Author : Valerijs Knazkins; Lennart Söder; Ian A. Hiskens; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical engineering; engineering; electronics and electrical engineering; system science; Elektroteknik; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik;

    Abstract : This four-part dissertation is essentially concerned with some theoretical aspects of the stability studies of power systems with large penetration levels of distributed generation. In particular, in Parts I and II the main emphasis is placed upon the transient rotor angle and voltage stability. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quantal trajectories and geometric phase

    Author : Henrik Carlsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum chemistry; Kvantkemi; Quantum chemistry; Kvantkemi; Quantum Chemistry; kvantkemi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the following topics: geometric phase in the context of Galilean invariance and quantum measurements, Rydberg states of hydrogen atoms, vibronic coupling in the E Ä e Jahn-Teller system and realism in quantum computations. In the analyses the de Broglie-Bohm pilot-wave formulation of quantummechanics is mainly used. READ MORE
