1. Using Molecular Dynamics Simulations to Explore Critical Property Relationships in Polymer Electrolytes : Polarity, Coordination, Ionic transport, Ion-pairing, and Ion-ion Correlations
Abstract : While ion transport in solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) has been explored for decades, there still remains controversies about its fundamental properties, often correlated with gaps between experimental and computational studies. Using molecular dynamics simulations to understand the complex transport mechanisms and also to fill these gaps is the main goal of this thesis. READ MORE

2. Cation Conduction and Coordination in Carbonyl-Containing Compounds : Li+ Transport in Alternative Polymer Electrolyte Host Materials
Abstract : The field of solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) used to create safer lithium-ion batteries has been dominated by polyethylene oxide (PEO) since the discovery of its ion-conducting properties in the 1970s. In this thesis, as an alternative, the ion coordination and conduction properties of SPEs based on polyketones, polyesters and polycarbonates are investigated. READ MORE

3. Ionic Conduction and Bond Valence in Glasses
Abstract : Ion conducting glasses are highly interesting for several different applications, among them, chemical sensors, smart windows with variable optical properties and as electrolytes in batteries. The last example can take full advantage of the ease with which a thin film (... READ MORE

4. Magnetotransport Studies of Mn Ion-Implanted Nanowires
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the magnetotransport properties of highly Mn-doped crystalline GaAs nanowires. The GaAs nanowires were first grown by metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy from gold seed particles, and subsequently implanted with Mn ions under varying conditions, e.g., ion fluence and acceleration voltage. 5. Anionic Graft Copolymers with Poly(ethylene oxide) Side-Chains; Synthesis, Solution Properties and Ion Conduction
Abstract : The research underlaying this thesis involves synthesis and characterization of well-defined anionic graft copolymers carrying poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) side-chains. Two different grafting techniques were used. Backbone polymers were prepared through radical terpolymerization of maleic anhydride, styrene and an additional comonomer. READ MORE
