  1. 1. Syntheses of Allelochemicals for Insect Control

    Author : Olof Smitt; KTH; []
    Keywords : isoprenoids; natural product synthesis; allelochemicals; kairomones; allomones; bisabolane terpenoids; Hylobius abietis; germacrane terpenoids; Neodiprion sertifer; stereoselective synthesis;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the synthetic preparation of somecompounds, which can serve as chemical signals for use in thedevelopment of control methods for pest insects. The compoundssynthesised are of the isoprenoid type and of two kinds:carvone derivatives and germacranes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Engineering Yeast Metabolism for Production of Sesquiterpenes

    Author : Stefan Tippmann; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; affibodies; transcriptomics; isoprenoids; sesquiterpenes; metabolomics; metabolic engineering;

    Abstract : Sesquiterpenes belong to the large and diverse group of isoprenoids, which are ubiquitous in the plant kingdom and have various applications in the chemical industry as fragrances, pharmaceuticals and as substitutes for petroleum-based gasoline, diesel and jet fuels. In this project, production of sesquiterpenes was studied in Saccharomyces cerevisiae using farnesene as an example with the objective to gain new insights into the synthesis of these compounds and to evaluate different metabolic engineering strategies. 3. 3. Characterization of Secondary Metabolites from Natural Sources

    Author : Gilda Erosa; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bourreria pulchra; Heliotropium angiospermum; medicinal plants; Cylindrocarpon; Ripartites metrodii; natural products; Ripartites tricholoma; Sideroxylon foetidissimum.;

    Abstract : Natural products have contributed for many years to the development of new medicines for the treatment of diseases. Their structural diversity and complexity have inspired chemists to produce interesting compounds with pharmaceutical use. READ MORE

  4. 4. Protein Prenylation in Higher Eukaryotes

    Author : Ingela Parmryd; Patrick J Casey; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Protein prenylation is a post-translational process where proteins become covalently modified by an isoprenoid group. This modification adds hydrophobicity to the proteins. For all prenylated proteins identified to date, the prenyl group is an absolute requirement for their biological functions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Detection and characterization of novel proteins in Trypanosoma cruzi

    Author : Marcela Ferella; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Trypanosoma cruzi is a flagellated protozoan parasite. It infects a wide range of mammals, including humans. Human T. cruzi infections are endemic to South and Central America. READ MORE
