1. Isotope labeling of proteins for spectroscopic studies
Abstract : Protein structural dynamics have been closely tied to the molecular mechanisms controlling for example enzyme activities. In my work, I have mainly studied the bacteriophytochrome from Deinococcus radiodurans. READ MORE

2. Molecular dynamics studied by NMR relaxation experiments. Characterization of functional dynamics in the FK506 binding protein FKBP12
Abstract : The presented thesis work is concerned with the study of molecular dynamics using liquid nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Spin relaxation dispersion experiments in the rotating frame (R1ρ) are employed to provide a detailed, atomic-resolution view of protein dynamics. READ MORE

3. Combined structural methods to characterize an oligomeric small heat shock protein Hsp21
Abstract : Small heat shock proteins (sHsps) are found in all organisms and evolved early in the history of life, prior to the divergence of the three domains of life (Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukarya). Their malfunction is connected to several different diseases in humans, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. READ MORE

4. On the Ring-Opening Reaction of Thiophene-1,1-dioxides and the Intramolecular Diels-Alder Reaction of Azanona- and AzadecatrienesI
Abstract : Substituted thiophene-1,1-dioxides were synthesized and their ring-opening reactions with omega-unsaturated secondary amines were investigated; this led to a synthetic route to azatrienes and to the preparation of some polyhydroisoindoles and polyhydroisoquinolines via an intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction. By using 2-substituted pyrrolidines and piperidines various tetrahydrobenzo[f]indolizidines, benzo[b]quinolizidines, tetrahydrobenzo[a]indolizidines and tetrahydro[a]pyrrolizidines could be synthesized via the ring-opening of 3-bromo-2,5-dimmethylthiophene-1,1-dioxide and a subsequent intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction. 5. Production and biomedical use of non-conventional positron emitters
Abstract : Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a powerful diagnostic tool. So far, it has mainly been associated with the use of short-lived positron emitters with half-lives shorter than 2 h, like 11C and 18F. READ MORE
