1. Characterization and Design Requirements for Antennas in the Near-field and the Random-LOS Propagation Environment
Abstract : The choice of antenna for a particular application depends on the requirements imposed by that application. These can be, the application's field region (i.e., near-field or far-field), polarization, radiation pattern, radiation efficiency, system throughput, etc. READ MORE

2. Spatio-Temporal Estimation for Mixture Models and Gaussian Markov Random Fields - Applications to Video Analysis and Environmental Modelling
Abstract : In this thesis computationally intensive methods are used to estimate models and to make inference for large, spatio-temporal data sets. The thesis is divided into two parts: the first two papers are concerned with video analysis, while the last three papers model and investigate environmental data from the Sahel area in northern Africa. 3. Development of NMR methods for studies of dynamics and structure : applications to motilin, Alzheimer β-peptide and ubiquitin
Abstract : NMR spin relaxation was used to study structure and dynamics of two biologically important peptides. The first case concerns the three-dimensional structure of the 22 amino acid residue peptide hormone motilin in the presence of SDS micelles, which mimic a biomembrane environment. 4. Atomic transport in optical lattices
Abstract : This thesis includes both experimental and theoretical investigations of fluctuation-induced transport phenomena, presented in a series of nine papers, by studies of the dynamics of cold atoms in dissipative optical lattices. With standard laser cooling techniques about 108 cesium atoms are accumulated, cooled to a few μK, and transferred into a dissipative optical lattice. READ MORE

5. Explicit algebraic subgrid-scale stress and passive scalar flux modeling in large eddy simulation
Abstract : The present thesis deals with a number of challenges in the field of large eddy simulation (LES). These include the performance of subgrid-scale (SGS) models at fairly high Reynolds numbers and coarse resolutions, passive scalar and stochastic modeling in LES. READ MORE
