  1. 1. Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy : clinical, genetic, clinical pharmacological, and neurophysiological studies

    Author : Anders Sundqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : epilepsy; juvenile myoclonic epilepsy; idiopathic generalised epilepsy; differential diagnosis; genetics; linkage; valproic acid; pharmacokinetics; treatment; drug monitoring; EEG; neurophysiology; neuropsychology. Printed in Sweden by Repro Print; ;

    Abstract : Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) has been considered to be a discrete phenotype. Evidence from segregation analysis and twin studies suggest that JME is a genetically determined disease, and two previous linkage studies of separately ascertained kindreds have suggested that a JME locus, EJM 1, resides on chromosome 6p close to the HLA region. 2. 2. Multimethodological brain imaging studies of human epilepsy

    Author : Carolina Ciumas; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Although the pathophysiological mechanisms of human epilepsy are extensively investigated, many questions remain unanswered. One is whether idiopathic generalized epilepsies (IGE) have anatomical substrates. Another is functional integrity of the limbic networks outside the epileptogenic region in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE). READ MORE

  3. 3. Multimethodological imaging studies of pathophysiological mechanisms in human epilepsy

    Author : Carolina Ciumas; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Although the pathophysiological mechanisms of human epilepsy are extensively investigated, many questions remain unanswered. One is whether idiopathic generalized epilepsies (IGE) have anatomical substrates. Another is if the functional integrity of the limbic networks in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE) is impaired. 4. 4. A pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic study of an antiepileptic drug (lamotrigine) in young patients with drug-resistant generalized epilepsy

    Author : Ann-Sofie Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : High-performance liquid chromatography; Antiepileptic drugs; Therapeutic drug monitoring; Lamotrigine; Carbamazepine; Epilepsy; Children; Lennox-Gastaut; Efficacy; CSF; [gamma]aminobuturic acid; Glutamate; Aspartate; Glycine; EEG;

    Abstract : The purpose of the present study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of lamotrigine in young patients with drug-resistant generalised epilepsy. This group of patients is difficult to study due to a high seizure frequency, comorbidity and the frequent use of polytherapy. READ MORE
